Big brands shun straight, white Britain in their adverts

Advertisers are turning to gay couples and ethnic minorities to sell their products.

Ikea used a gay male couple to represent the diversity of modern family life in a recent campaign Ikea used a gay male couple to represent the diversity of modern family life in a recent campaign.

Advertisers are so worried about being accused of racism or homophobia they are shying away from using images of white people and straight couples.

Marketing departments are even putting diversity above relevance to their target audience to avoid accusations of bigotry, a survey of 500 companies has found.

A third of advertisers questioned said they had used fewer white models and heterosexual couples over the past year. More than a third of these said they were taking this approach to “prevent perceived discrimination”.

The findings are likely to trigger accusations of political correctness but show a marked change in attitudes in the advertising industry, which has until recently had a reputation for under-representing ethnic minorities.

Brands that have featured gay couples include Lloyds.

Of course “big brands” don’t prepare their own ads. They hire ad agencies and pay them many millions of dollars to draw up elaborate advertising campaigns. And advertising firms are among the most leftwing institutions around. They’re every bit as leftwing as the universities.

I guess Ikea hates women, Latinos and Asians.

Well, I guess I won’t be shopping at IKEA anymore.

Not to worry. The US Ikea ad on TV features a lesbian couple celebrating their “anniversary” in their new Ikea kitchen.

It has gotten to the point where I don’t want my 12 year old watching TV anymore (he is homeschooled, so doesn’t get any exposure to these ideas at school). Lately I’ve noticed several ads where one in the couple is clearly a woman, but the other person could be either a man or a woman.

I guess they want it to be like commercials here, where 80% of people are minority or gay now.

It’s only interesting if it’s a gay, muslim couple (with a pet potbellied pig).

The attempted social engineering of the USA shopper is not news. Just google “why so many negros in TV ads”. Many people are noticing the trend and are sick of it. In most ads one sees the protagonist represented by a minority individual. The smartest guy in the ad (usually black) drives the very expensive car. The smartest couple are either minority or mixed race with the female usually a very attractive Caucasian. These representations clash with the reality that most regular people see each and every day.

This over-representation of minorities has even been noticed by my hyper-liberal BIL who mentioned it to me. He even has a moniker for these ads ... he calls it ‘NBN’ advertising (NBN = ‘nothing but negros’). One could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard that from him.

Have you noticed the number of ads with mixed couples (miscegenation) in them?

That’ll work.
Matters not anyway, since Great Britianstan of the future will have interesting things in store for those groups.
I do not think the Brits realize that the threat to their great country is larger now than it was during WW-II.

Turn off cable. Stop funding the people that want you dead. It is easy and simple. You decide who you will or will not allow in your house.

It isn’t just the cable; those products/companies are paying for the ads.

I attribute a lot of this as simply trying to sell to as many people as possible - and many whites are no longer the prime TV audience. Companies seem to be grasping at the last audiences that may watch TV 24/7...

I usually fast-forward through commercials, but the ones I’ve seen either have gays, mixed-race couples, (almost always white female/black male,) or else it’s a white male being portrayed negatively, (either he’s a dumb doofus or else he’s a burglar breaking into black people’s houses on home security commercials.) Or else they’ll try to portray every race in the world within a 30-second ad. It’s like a game to spot them all. “There’s the black. There’s the Latino. What, no Asian? Oh, there he is.”

They say women make most of the buying decisions. Why advertisers think women will rush to buy a product after the commercial insulted their husbands, sons, brothers, dads and male friends is beyond me.

So what. My son has been married to an Asian for 20 years and quite a few FReeper men brag about their Asian wives.

IKEA’s been on my ban list for years.

Just wait until mattress commercials start showing gays guys in bed together.

We've noticed that, too. You know something isn't right but you can't exactly tell what's what but you know what the company is trying to push.

You are both right. Both need to be voted against.

Cutting your cable tv is step one. Did you know CNN gets half of its revenue from cable subscriber fees? And it won’t be forever. The cable companies will eventually offer a la carte packages if enough people cut the cord.

Staying away from national brands is step two. Buy local/generic brands that do not advertise on tv. Eat at local restaurants instead of national chains. It is not possible to completely avoid national brands but if enough people try, the national brands will feel the decrease and so will the Left Media Cartel that depends on advertising revenue.
