Internet’s longest-running white supremacist site offline

Stormfront, one of the internet’s oldest and most popular white supremacist sites, has been booted off its web address of more than two decades amid a crackdown against hate sites.

The address Stormfront.org went dark on Friday, and publicly available information current lists its domain status as “under hold,” a category reserved for websites under legal dispute or slated for deletion, the USA Today network first reported.

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a D.C.-based nonprofit group, said it was behind the effort and had successfully booted the website from its domain of 22 years by raising its concerns with Stormfront’s registrar, Network Solutions LLC, and its parent company, Web.com.

Who gets to decide which sites are “hate” sites.

That determines which sites will be taken down.

Banning Internet sites is stupid, no matter how unsavory they are, and that includes Jihadists as well. Because leaving them alone enables them and their members to be exposed for what they are.

That is exactly right. Last week I watched a documentary on fighting ISIS in the cyber war with them. They were driven off of the popular social media sites like Twitter and Facebook so now they use some newer messaging site that has military grade encryption and changed other techniques as well. It is now nearly impossible to even detect their communications much less decipher what they're saying.

Good intentions screwed that pooch.

Through most of my many decades of life, one of the most common mantras of Liberty was "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." This sentiment was universally agreed upon by everyone in society, no matter where one stood across the political spectrum.

It is so self-evident that it is fundamental to Liberty, a necessary condition for Liberty to exist. What has happened? The original concept of the Internet was an Internet of coequal peers. It was envisioned as the opposite of centralized control.

we were a free society. Then we let in bunches of people that have no concept of a free society. Then we sent them to college so they could corrupt thinking into that of mob rule. The organizers of that free speech rally last week were quite prescient. That really is all the Left is after through the toppling of statues and shutting down internet sites: the silencing of free speech and therefore dissent.

I can’t stand StormFront, with that said, the 1st Amendment still applies even to the people who patronize that web site.
