Statuary Rape

Statuary Rape

A curious madness has swept the American left as of late: There is a hatred and a desire to tear down every monument and statue that 'offends' them.

Leaving aside the fact that there is no American right to remain unoffended, what started as a focus on Confederate statues has spread to every manner of marker or memorial.

Let us consider:

  1. A Houston man attempted to destroy a Confederate statue at the General Dowling Monument.... with a bomb!

  2. The 'offending' statue need not even be of a particular person, when, in Durham, protesters illegally toppled a statue of a generic Confederate soldier.

  3. AntiFa activists, mistakenly believing Confederate soldiers were buried at Gettysburg, planned to desecrate gravesites of Civil War casualties. On the official, government front: The Mayor of Memphis called for the digging up of Confederate graves, most notably, that of Nathan Bedford Forrest. This is in direct violation of Public Law 810 of 1958, which makes provision for treating Confederate soldiers as US veterans in the context of grave memorials and other veterans' benefits.

  4. The editor if Vice Magazine incredibly called for the razing of Mount Rushmore.

  5. Calls for statue removal now even extend to those of Christopher Columbus and Philadelphia's Frank Rizzo.

  6. Not even the statues of Catholic Saints are safe, when the mass hysteria that has gripped our nation extended to Saint Serra, and his statue was desecrated.

  7. The madness even extends to names. ESPN removed an announcer from calling a football game because his name was Robert Lee.

  8. Even more absurdly, the names of the animals of Robert E. Lee are even subject to attack: Traveler, a mascot of the USC, was condemned since it shared a name with of Robert E. Lee's horse.

If the name of a horse owned by Robert E. Lee is now forbidden, I shudder to think what comes next. Will the girl's names of Georgia and Virginia be stricken from the list of acceptable names, because those States joined the Confederacy? Will Mason canning jars be banned, because they remind someone -- somewhere -- of the Mason-Dixon line? Will flocks of geese, flying south for the winter, be shot out of the sky by crazed leftists, because "South" is now an expletive?

To the left, I say this: The comparison of your behavior to the behavior of MiniTruth (the Ministry of propaganda in the novel '1984',) is an obvious one. Further, to strike the statues that you object to makes you no different than ISIS, who regards any monument not directed towards the furtherance of Islam a "Haram" -- or forbidden -- thing. Finally, by deleting any statue of a historical figure, you diminish the publics' awareness of history -- and in so doing, increase the chance we will repeat that history. Perhaps these are your true goals, but if they are not, then I suggest you stop directing your rage to inanimate objects.

Besides, I would add, not even people of color share your priorities. In a recent poll, it was shown that Black Americans do not want Confederate statues removed.

This all started with the hysterical overreaction to the existence of the Confederate battle flag that occured after it was found that Dylann Root, a shooter who attacked a South Carolina church posed in one picture with such a flag. I wrote an editorial about that topic. I was not yet aware just how far this hatred of inanimate objects would go.

In conclusion, I would like to remind the American left that the urge to destroy inanimate objects that they do not favor will inevitably become an urge to destroy the people they do not like.

And there begins the Fascism and tyranny of which you so routinely, and inaccurately, accuse President Donald Trump.

“Now, all of a sudden, they all have to come down? Curious.”

It’s all part of the chaos that the left wants to occur during the Trump administration———and I’m afraid it won’t stop.

Civil War monuments to the failed Confederacy have always been a moral question.

The USA is about the only place I know that seriously challenges the rule that the victor gets to write the history.

“Cong Yvette Clarke describes herself as a “Caribbean-American.”

Her name is Cong? As in Viet Cong? Ban her! I’m offended by her name.

I could think of far less appropriate trees for our modern left to bark up, than the Confederacy tree. They might just find their own legacy soul in that tree!

Civil War monuments to the failed Confederacy have always been a moral question.

Not since 1958, when they were declared United States Veterans.

There’s a statue of John D. Castleman who was a Confederate major and a brigadier general in the Spanish-American war that leftists in Louisville want to tear down. It’s not even a Confederate memorial since he is depicted in plain clothes and s dedicated to his service as first president of the Park service there.

For the left, their anger and the hate that their anger fuels, knows no bounds. I fear we are only at the beginning of what will end so incredibly ugly.

When the left runs out of historical reminders of America and Christianity, they will come after those of us who have those memories.

Arrest them, charge them, do not eff around. It is pretty obvious that a fair amount of this comes from a place of wanting to destroy and break laws in order to alleviate self-loathing.

Restore order and address the problems caused by terrible trade deals, a service economy, rent-seeking, etc. Service economies only work if family ties and personal safety nets are severely compromised.

Thank you, kind sir. I hope to retire from computer development sometime in the next decade, decade and a half, and write.

And write.

And write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write and write.

Is this an extended pun? A satirical piece? You do know there is a difference between a statue and a statute?

BTW, I don’t intend to let this thread become a forum for the Unionists Vs. the Southrons. While I have my own opinions about the issues, I will leave them away from here, inasmuch as any of those threads devolve into acronimity and namecalling.

You freakin’ putz, you.

;)
