Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with “a cargo trailer halfway in the building.” Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.
Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

There’s some truth to that, but, it’s not necessarily any worse than an average roof vent or roof mounted fan, if done and maintained correctly. A little sealer every few years...
Well..what else can be done???? The entire area is in emergency crisis mode. Thousands have already been rescued and there are more happening even now.....the only thing to step up those rescues, in beating rain no less, is for the Red sea to part....
There are over 1000 rescue people there now....if I recall right ‘any’ crisis such as this you are basically on your own for a couple days.....unfortunately many plan no further for emergencies other than a frig of food and water.....
In my family we plan for ‘ways of escape” even without a threat....Here fire would be the greatest threat...so I know exactly what to do and where to go...and ‘three’ different plans of action.
A flood switch would have something like a float-operated cutoff.
Just build a ladder on side of house. Near door. Disguise it with decor.
Yep...they’ve been warning all day about this coming...and in fact even BEFORE Harvey hit.... that this would be a week long event of flooding and huge amounts of rain....
Unfortunately many still didn’t prepare for this....

But I do not understand. The black mayor requests that white supremicist help rescue mostly blacks and Mexicans. That is what was on the T.V. in regards to those rescuers. It seems to contradict what the left has been saying. Remember, if you voted Trump you are a racist.

Earlier on, I noted that I personally would use my cordless saber saw (with extra blades and the hand axe as backup.

Still, if one does not panic, and doesn’t wait for the water to reach the floor of the attic, hacking through is not THAT hard. The heart attack risk is likely no worse than the risks up on the roof, in this situation, anyway.
Could have been a Katrina given a couple more days of building momentum. That anti cyclonic flow at mid level throughout the Carribbean was odd.
I can’t see a cat in the photo at the news site link, you can read the rest of the short article, but no mention of a cat. I hate thinking about the animals left who have to fend for themselves and can’t make it. :-(
Yes--cat is in the background, and kibbles are on the table in the foreground. I still say the photo is a fake, even if Galveston News posted it.

Stalled is not good.
A hurricane back in 1928 (or there about), stalled over lake Okeechobee and wiped out Clewiston, Belle Glade and Okeechobee. Three days I believe.
Loss of life was great.
