Dems slam Trump for pardoning Arpaio during hurricane

By Taylor Lorenz - 08/25/17 10:11 PM EDT

Democrats lashed out at President Trump on Friday evening over his decision to pardon Joe Arpaio, the controversial former sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., as a huge storm barreled toward Texas.

Trump faced intense criticism for issuing the pardon hours before Hurricane Harvey was set to hit the Gulf Coast, potentially causing devastating damage as it brought massive wind and rain.

"Donald Trump just gave a free pass to his buddy Joe Arpaio, the nation’s most notorious agent of racism and bigotry, during a natural disaster that could hurt millions. That's not presidential, that's a coward,” Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said in a statement.

“Sheriff Arpaio used racial profiling to tear apart immigrant families and devastate Latino communities. At the same time, he failed to investigate hundreds of crimes, including dozens of reported child molestations," he added.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) charged that Trump was "using the cover of the storm" to issue the pardon of Arpaio, a controversial sheriff convicted of criminal contempt after violating a court order and racially profiling Latinos.

"As millions of people in TX and LA are prepping for the hurricane, the President is using the cover of the storm to pardon a man who violated a court's order to stop discriminating against Latinos and ban courageous transgender men and women from serving our nation's Armed Forces. Then he ran to Camp David,” Schumer wrote in a series of tweets.

And if Obama did it the press would be praising him for his ability to multitask.

When they hate you with every fiber of their being, then it doesn’t matter what you do. They cannot hate you any more.

They don’t like Arpaio because he enforced the law. Apparently enforcing the law is racist. Find a country you like better and go there, morons.

What does the hurricane have to do with anything? The President has been talking about a pardon for days.

No Time is the right time for Trump to do anything as far as the Commie NWO Dems are concerned. They ought to GFT and STFU.

Lie detectors are still needed to expose the alligators in the swamp.

The political realities are that pardons are announced going into weekends or holidays, regardless of whether a hurricane is spinning towards the USA.

It would be nice if the Democrats would point out the Friday night, night before a holiday game of politics that involves pardons, people resigning from their posts etc.

But that would expose the fact they have done things no different than President Trump is.

President Trump did what he planned to do BEFORE the hurricane hit, instead of waiting for the full time of recovery. What would make more sense?

“Dems slam Trump for pardoning Arpaio during hurricane”

The Democrats should not criticize the President during the hurricane.

They should wait until the storm is over, cleanup is complete and all the families have been totally made whole.

People are hurting. The nation is hurting. The world is hurting. To short-cut the grieving process for political gain is just wrong.

When would they prefer it done? Personally, he should have held a solemn ceremony in Phoenix the other day and do it in the public square.

They’ll stone you when you’re at the breakfast table
They’ll stone you when you are young and able
They’ll stone you when you’re tryin’ to make a buck
Then they’ll stone you and then they’ll say “good luck”
