Russia sends its 'nuclear bombers' on mission over Pacific Ocean forcing South Korea and Japan...

Russian Tupolev-95MS bombers flew over neutral waters accompanied by Sukhoi-35S fighter jets and an A-50 early warning and control aircraft, its defence ministry has said.

It gave no details about the overall number of aircraft that had taken part in what it called a pre-arranged flight - or why the mission took place.

The flight, which also included planes with advanced intelligence gathering capabilities, was announced on the same day as Moscow complained about the US-South Korean war games.

Russia, which shares a border with North Korea, has repeatedly voiced concerns about rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula following Pyongyang's nuclear missile programme.

It has also repeatedly complained about Japan's plans to host a US anti-missile system on its soil.

The TU-95MS bombers were refuelled in mid-air during the mission, the ministry said.

During parts of the route, the bombers were escorted by South Korean and Japanese military jets, it added.

Propellers? They should be more worried about the excess Chinese population moving into Siberia.

Fun fact: South Korea has a higher GDP than Russia does.

Russia and North Korea declare 2015 a ‘year of friendship’

“The biggest cause for concern is the growing military alliance between Russia and North Korea, with the two regimes recently announcing plans to conduct a series of joint army, navy and air force exercises this year.”

Russia steps up North Korea support to constrain US

May 17, 2017

“Despite efforts by the United Nations to impose isolating sanctions on North Korea in response to the country’s continued development of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles, trade between Russia and North Korea soared more than 85 percent in the first four months of the year.”

What people don’t realize having not played the game “Ultamanium” is the Nukes are a despasation all else failed weapon. If you think about WW2 and Japan, we really did not want to inade them, so we ended it.

US subs could hear those suckers deep underwater.

I think the first generation of aircrews went deaf from them, before they figured out adequate ear protection.

Gee, I wonder how the North Koreans have made such advances in ICBMs and bomb miniaturization.

The important thing about nukes isn’t using them, it’s having them.

I've always thought that photos of the "Bear" when in flight looked strangely graceful...

Frankly, I'd like to see and hear one in flight. My guess is that it (with its 8 CR props) probably sounds uniquely distinctive -- as did the B-36 (with its six pushers).

Frankly, I'd like to see and hear one in flight.

Years ago, a FReeper said that they are so loud that deafness is a common occupational disability among Tu-95 crew members.

In order to achieve high air speed (reputedly over 500 mph), the tips of their propellers move faster than the speed of sound, resulting in very loud operation, with a heavy loss of efficiency.

B-52 top speed is 650 mph.

Tu-95's four engines together generate a bit less than 60,000 hp.

By comparison, one GE 90 high-bypass engine generates about 90,000 hp.

If an article had been written every time this happened in the 70s and 80s, the world would now be without ink.

Super routine.
