In recent weeks, a controversy has popped up pitting the centrist #Resistance and progressive wings of the Democratic party against each other. This iteration of what has become a common battle regards a rising star of the establishment Democratic party—Kamala Harris, junior senator from California. Although the recent debate on Harris is relatively new, sparked by an article from The Week by Ryan Cooper titled “Why Leftists Don’t Trust Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Deval Patrick,” it’s only the newest incarnation of a toxic dynamic that has been in full swing since 2016, where the two sides do battle over whether leftist critique of certain politicians is proof that the critics are racist, misogynist, or both. No matter how specific and policy-oriented the left’s critiques are, a certain class of liberals will never let the debate be about policy. This piece is an attempt to explain their tactics, and outline a strategy for overcoming them.

I agree with you about Kamala Harris. She’s well to the left of Obama. This situation brings to mind Weimar Germany when the KPD (German Communist Party) wanted to form a coalition with the SPD (German Socialist Party) to thwart Hitler’s ascension to power. Stalin refused, saying that socialists and liberals in general were “social facists” (Communist parties everywhere in the world subordinated themselves to the Kremlin). He even summoned the then head of the KPD to Moscow and had him murdered for advocating it.
Harry Truman wrote in his memoirs that “The only thing new in this world is the history you haven’t read.”

She once told an audience that Mao Tse Tung was one of her favorite political philosophers and quoted Mao on how to "fight your war."
That is a good point, but I do think that the Bernie Bros have been pushed far left in order to keep them from focusing on jobs, lowering healthcare costs, and other pocketbook issues. Trump scares the poop out of the Dems probably mostly because if the pocketbook issues are resolved their support is GONE!
If you have a political party whose sole existence depends on the votes of the ‘poor’ then it is in the best interest of the party to make damn sure there are as many ‘poor’ as possible...................
I perused the referenced article and while they mention $15 minimum wage and free tuition, they are mostly upset by things like Harris’s lack of prosecutions for financial crimes and Bain Capital alumnus as candidates. They are undoubtedly a confused bunch of people but there is some common ground with Trump supporters (they would no doubt be horrified to learn).

The main thing that Harris has going for her is that her positions on most things are unknown. One thing that is known is that her NRA rating is a lot worse than Bernie Sanders. She is being pushed very aggressively, but nobody knows what she stands for. Sound familiar??

This is amazing inside baseball I frankly did not know was afoot. I happen to feel that all the a-holes in the article will fall into lockstep at the drop of rat.
OTOH, the whole thing sounds like the politics of an Indian tribe, for those of you who are familiar. To the outsider, the nuances of the issues in a tribal election are almost invisible. The novice observer (me) might be tempted to say that it seems like the only issues boil down to which clan is going to get hold of the tribal treasury, police force, courts, its plum jobs, and the doled-out goodies.
Here, with the dimocrats, I’m hearing “the center can’t deal with policy, and the far, far left doesn’t want to talk about anything else.”
If that’s true, and I reckon it is: I suspect the “center” (LOL) of wanting to go back before Bernie, when dimowits NEVER enunciated their true agenda (communism), and won their fair share of elections via that ruse. I suspect the “leftists” of calling BS on that, since the cat is already out of the bag by virtue of Bernie’s stunning viability in the primaries, running as an unrepentant socialist.
It’s amusing, I must say.
I think the country has already gone down the road of electing an inexperienced person with no foreign policy experience, a thin resume, and no legislative track record to speak of. We got “diplomatic cables,” “stimulus,” crappy growth, Benghazi, non-existent financial crimes prosecutions, “workplace violence” terrorism, a “misery index,” historic levels of division, and a bunch of dead cops.
Its a nice little crack in the dam that explains why they are so apoplectic about Trump.

The part of the Left where the actual numbers are were born in the 1990’s. They differ from Trump supporters mostly on methods, not as much as they may think on actual goals. That is incredibly dangerous for the game the Dems are playing because they could all bolt at once. Poof!
