Until recently my wife’s grandparents had a house in Indianola, and in one storm the roof of a nearby house lifted off and hit their house, ripping a big hole in it.
Looking at that big hole brought home the enormity of it all. It scared me.
Right. Allison came through, came back and came back again.
Our house NEVER floods. Water was up to the garage.
The house next door went up for sale the next week. Their realtor told them not to clean the carpet or paint scratches on the wall, so any prospective buyer would know the house did not flood. Sold in 3 days.
That was from 16 inches of rain, locally. Now envision every river in East Texas with over 20 inches of rain falling over much of their basins. And with storm surge from a stalled hurricane damning up their mouths.
I’m a Baptist too. :) My dad was with VCB when he could still handle all that construction work. Thank you for your service to our Lord.
great time to read a long Dickens novel-all my candles are ready and food stocked. Gotta bathe my Shepherd so he can be more “indoor” during our 4-day lock-in.
Ike technically was not a major (Cat 2 at landfall), but try telling that to the areas impacted by it.

You know, I hope this is another bad guess.
But it looks like it will be a rather bad hit
I saw that Bastardi tweet as well. Hope he’s wrong this time.
I’m just west of the HEIGHTS this ole Ranch style 50’s special has never flooded either-—I hope she holds up yet again. We are very close to a bayou here...
We have an historic home in Tyler we are remodelling...wondering if we should haul ass north.
I’m up the road from you, in Needville.
Water volumes will be very significant. Got to hope the mountain high out West can weaken it a bit when it starts turning.
A Hurricane named after a White Invisible Rabbit.
Just another slight to African Americans.
Whoa.....that's not good. Everybody stay safe.
Thanks, but I live in S. CA, not Texas and I have no idea what that has to do with my Post.
I was referring to that idiotic Black Congresswoman from Texas who was upset because Hurricanes aren’t named after Blacks> You know, names like Leticia, or Sequisha or ???
That one of the reasons I will not choose to live in a hurricane area. Tornadoes? I will sit outside and watch them come (have done so many times). Fires? Well, I will go up wind. -20F winters? Well, I might have to be careful taking the dog out and not grill that night.
Flooding in a low lying area from storm surge? No thank you. I am heading inland. My wife LOVES the ocean, and my paranoid fear of hurricanes has caused some arguments about retirement options. She wants to retire to the Outer Banks. I want Wyoming.
