Buoy Data near Harvey
Generators have had their test run, gas cans are full, food, water, ice, batteries, window coverings should it turn into a hurricane. Making sandbags this evening. We’re as ready as we can be. I’ve charged all my devices, so I’ll keep in touch.
I will grant this portion of your statement - I was unnecessarily hyperbolic in my criticism of the trend I see in weather reporting, and I picked what appears to be an accurate use of superlatives as my target.
For that, I heartily apologize. I will keep in mind to evaluate the information presented before considering whether the writer has sensationalized the data.
NautiNurse - I’m sorry for my comment that undermines your accurate use of “potentially catastrophic”.
Don’t blame the meteorologists for overuse of superlatives.
That is the domain of journalists.
Agreed, and it is always better to ere on the side of caution. Better to have extra supplies than lives endangered, IMHO.
Because people who don’t live in the area and experience the devastation themselves don’t think that it’s really as bad as it was claimed.
Some people have a superior to thou attitude and think they are better than everyone else.
Must be nice to live a comfortable life that never experiences stuff like this.
“Blah, blah CATASTROPHIC!!! blah, blah blah...”
Tell that to the people who will go through it and suffer from it.
They have to warn people and it’s NOT crying wolf.
If they don’t do it and it’s that bad, they’d be shredded for NOT warning people.
You have to be prepared for the worst case scenario.
If it happens, you are ready. And if it doesn’t happen, you’re grateful.
Pressure down to 979mb last recon pass just now
No, I didn’t. I wasn’t in the neighborhood I currently am, but I was in the same general area.
I lived on Toddville rd for 18 years before I moved to East Texas. I heard Ike put 4 ft of water in my old house. Course Rita put the pucker factor off the scale where I live now. We have 100 ft pines thick as fleas here and when they start banging together it's quite the sensation. They actually shake the ground when they come down.
Hey, I live near the medical center, in 77025.
My neighborhood gets surrounded by flooding on 3 sides. It’s always very exciting.
My neighborhood is called Westridge, and apparently is on a small ridge, because our street is a little higher than Buffalo Speedway and definitely higher than Braes Bayou.
So yeah, if you are work and are gonna die, feel free to PM me. I have beer.
And Harbor Fright sells out of generators 3 2 1...
Thanks for the thread NN. While I no longer live in the Houston area(NE Alabama now) I have a son, a DIL and three young grandsons there. First one for the kiddos.
Looks like we have hurricane Harvey. Official word any minute
Confirmed winds 80 mph
Winds at 80, hello hurricane Harvey
Thanks for checking in! Best thoughts for your son and his family.
Truth. It can be slow movement as much as wind or anything else.

Forecaster Berg/Brennan
If it hits Matagorda Bay then it will directly hit Indianola, which was so utterly destroyed by multiple hurricanes in the 1900s that the entire town was simply abandoned.
It used to be the country seat, and you can still see the foundations of the old courthouse, 300 feet out into the bay.
