Beat me to it. It’s within your rights just indiscreet and inappropriate.

A pistol on your hip is appropriate for 99.99% of situations you are ever likely to need a gun. Hauling around a long arm is for soldiers, hunters, or the odd security guard. By the time Joe Average actually NEEDS to be packing that kind of heat in public we are in serious doo-doo.

I carry concealed for protection.

Not open for aggravation.

I conceal carry everywhere.

Some states require a permit for CCW. Some of us refuse to ask permission of the state to exercise a Constitutional right. That leaves only open carry as an option, in my book, because I indeed refuse to ask permission.

“That’s a milquetoast agenda. I want them to be afraid - very afraid -”

Your view is that of the typical chest-beater that gets us into trouble. Listen, we share the same goals - unlimited access to ANY firearm (including full autos) for the average citizen, carry (concealed or not) everywhere, etc. Where we differ is ONLY in the methods by which we hope to get there.

From my POV, we have had our rights reduced one salami slice at a time for over 100 years (starting at least with the 1911 Sullivan Law in NY). We are NOT going to get back all that we have lost in one shot, no matter how legally or morally correct we are. I hate - HATE - the Left with a burning passion...but I give them credit for being smart about achieving their objectives. They never stop coming at you, and look at it as a victory if they get 5% of what they are asking for - because they KNOW that they’ll be coming for the other 95% later. We would do well to emulate their tactics to push things the other way.

As far as making them “afraid, very afraid” - that is how we got into this mess in the first place. We were doing fine as a nation with people buying and carrying what they wished to for over 100 years...and then some city-dwellers became afraid and the $hit started sliding in our direction. You DON’T want them afraid - you WANT them to wake up one day and find that we have incrementally chipped away at their agenda to such an extent that they don’t recognize it (the same, in reverse, as what happened to us). If you make them afraid, progress either stops or slows dramatically.

You’d be better off letting the big head do the thinking, rather than the small head. Just saying.

The anti-American, anti-gun leftist liberals will never change their minds. At this point, America has chosen sides of the argument. The reason the leftists have been able to continue chipping away 5% at a time is because we sit back and let them. We are too nice. We abide by the law, while they ignore it. When they attack, we lay down and let them go. That is PRECISELY why we are where we are today.

It's long past time to stop being nice.

“If allowed, I conceal carry everywhere. At a protest, definitely. But why announce it? Why make yourself the first target?”

I couldn’t agree more. I live in TX, where now we have open carry. Great - I’m glad that others have the choice to do this without risking jail time or getting shot by a cop. However, for ME, when my wife gets the hankering for a bag of chips or some ice cream, I go to the local Stop & Rob concealed, because if I carry openly then I’m the first target for some scumbag crook. I don’t want to be a threat to him - not when he’s got the initiative and surprise on his side.

For me, the best thing about open carry is that I can no longer be charged with a crime for inadvertently “brandishing” (which I thought was utter BS, but that doesn’t stop the cuffs from going on).

It is one thing to fight, tooth and claw, against bad legislation that restricts our rights, or for a good piece of legislation that would restore some that have been lost.

It is a whole other thing to be out in public with rifles and shotguns hung over our shoulders, scaring the white women. Scare the white women, and you get shut down, because public opinion will be 100% against us. That is just plain stupid. And, no, I’m not black...but traditionally, if the women of this country are scared about something, then they are against it. If they are against it, then it goes away. White women are more numerous, and also more influential...so the central lesson is: “don’t scare the white women.”

Let us know how open carry at a protest works out for you.
