The first total solar eclipse in nearly a century not only has injected a much-needed sense of awe towards astronomy into our culture, but also has introduced a golden age of eclipse watching.

I'm getting fed up hearing about this 'first in a century' solar eclipse. There was a total eclipse in 1970. I was in sixth grade in NJ and remember it well. We made shadow viewers and watched it from the baseball field.
