An annual Civil War re-enactment in Virginia was canceled Friday after participants shared worries over their safety following the recent violence in Charlottesville.
The two-day event in Manassas, scheduled to start Aug. 25, was meant to share how both Union and Confederate soldiers lived during the Civil War.
The event, which the city began hosting in 2011 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, has previously featured tent cities set up in the downtown area, an evening ball, and lectures about how the war started and why.
Patty Prince, a Manassas city spokeswoman, said some of the re-enactors called event organizers with worries that the racially charged atmosphere across the country over whether to tear down Civil War monuments would lead to violence.
Its just not a good time to have it, Prince said about the event. Its a very sad time in our country.

I’m with you in your anger.....
...where do we go for redress?
Our President is enduring by the Grace of God, but they throw filth at him 24/7
Thanks be to God he is not a quitter!
It sickens me what the traitors are getting away with.
I watched the Vice video of the Battle of Charlottsville, and they were interviewing one of the southern generals, the guy with Daily Stormer.
He was very specific and identified "Jewish Communists" and "Criminal Niggers". That was at 6:54 on the tape.
This is how nations die. Instead of enforcing the rule of law against these anarchists (lets be clear, that is what these people are) who threaten violence against anything they don’t like, our political leaders give in to them and cancel events. All that does is embolden the anarchists.
It’s called Tourism.
Think the problem is that the South WON the 1st Bull Run?
Maybe sort of like a game, but done for the same reasons as the monuments, so people will never forget.
LEftiss jes don like reinackment of Bull Run cuz they sent them federals steppin’ and fetchin’ like they heels wuz on fire and they asses wuz ketchin’!
Well, this is true, this was the most sickening part of the whole debacle of 0sama, was that we found out the government was rotten through and through. We shouldn’t expect any better from the current crop. Time for a new generation of leadership.
Fix Bayonets. Cold steel people don’t like.
My cousin and his wife have been in many Civil War re-enactments over the years, in both Southern and Northern states, including here in Maine. They live in Massachusetts (and voted for Trump).
Like you said, these re-enactments pump huge amounts of tourism money into the local economy. Thousands of participants come into the area, and countless more local people who come from far and wide to watch and observe the re-enactors, and spend money on restaurants, motels, goods of all kinds, etc.
A big mistake cancelling this event at Bull Run / Manassas. One should never cave in to the left.
When I was in college in Los Angeles MANY years ago, I admired a ten volume set of books in the college library. The ten half-leather volumes were published in Atlanta in 1899 by the Confederate Publishing Company. The title: “Confederate Military History.”
Is the left going to start demanding that historical books, flags, and artifacts from the South be burned? What about all the original Confederate currency in the hands of collectors?
This insanity has to stop.
I guess Soros found some lefties willing to carry Confederate battle flags and Nazi flags for $25 per hour.
DIVERSITY IS STRENGTH
Glad I made to Appomattox Courthouse for the 150th Anniversary before all this madness really gained steam.
Have a nice day.
Thanks for your post. I assumed local dollars would disappear with all these cancellations. It’s a sick world out there and getting sicker!!!
No one is fighting the civil war. In case you haven’t noticed the left is also attacking statues of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and various Catholic saints.
The re-enactors should go ahead and do the re-enactment. They should keep their bayonets and sabers handy while doing it.
