President Trump will address the nation on his Afghanistan war strategy tomorrow at 9 p.m. from Fort Myer in Arlington, VA. It's one of the most consequential decisions of his presidency, and it comes after Trump met with his national security team on Friday at Camp David .
Defense Secretary James Mattis said on Sunday, per Reuters: "I am very comfortable that the strategic process was sufficiently rigorous and did not go in with a pre-set position."
The stakes: Should Trump order a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, advisers believe he'd all but ensure the Taliban completes its takeover of the country. Al-Qaeda and ISIS would be allowed to flourish, and you'd have a terrorist launching pad similar to, or potentially worse than, before 9/11.
Trump's decision hasn't leaked; but I can illuminate some of the private conversations leading up to it, from senior administration sources and former officials close to the Pentagon

The geopolitical situation is that China wants access to Afghanistan’s resources and to put it’s “One Road” through there.
The US also wants access to the resources, and for China to build it’s One Road.
Militarily I guess that means keeping on until China gets it’s head straight and negotiates.
I’d like to see us withdraw, except for intelligence apparatus. let China, Pakistan, Iran and Russia suffer the terrorists they’ve created there. But that wouldn’t set well with India.

Bad news, as it almost surely means he’s capitulating to McMaster and sending thousands more of our war fighters into that hopeless hellhole.
If the leaks are right (4,000 more troops), this sucks. This sounds like a prescription of endless low level war and more American dead. What happened to Go Big or Go Home, or something completely different like a Blackwater Army?
America’s best interests are served by complete, near-term withdraw.

Cut the cable and stream what you want from the Internet. With a Roku (or similar) box, it's possible to put it on your TV. But most of my streaming is now done over my laptop or iPad. I hardly ever turn the TV on at all these days.
Afghanistan is a losing backwater we never should have got involved in (under W) or escalated (under Barry).
We know Trump’s heart and instincts are not with yet another escalation that will cost lives and bring us yet again many more vets disabled in various tough ways.
I imagine he doesn’t want to spark a revolt among his generals at this moment, but I can’t see him making such an address to the country without looking like a neutered hostage to the military-industrial complex.
I think he’ll “punk” the media and use this prime time Afganistan address to address the media’s blowing things out of proportion on Charlotte.
He needs to address the country on the race issue very soon, so he can correct the record that he is not a racist and has no affiliation with Neo-Nazis or White Supremacists.
After all, Obummer didn’t call out Islam for all the evils they’ve done (because “most Muzzies are peaceful people.”).
