HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- With a large police presence -- including HPD helicopters above, mounted patrol with horses wearing gear to protect their eyes should tear gas be used, and a lot of officers monitoring -- a two-sided protest unfolded outside the park where a 109-year-old statue has become a lightning rod.

The Spirit of the Confederacy statue was dedicated in 1908 at Sam Houston Park near city hall by the Daughters of the Confederacy. In the aftermath of last weekend's deadly confrontation in Charlottesville, Confederate statues have been protested as living symbols of racism.

HPD estimated the number of demonstrators calling for the statue's removal at about 400. Those who wanted the statue to remain were estimated at about 65, according to an assistant police chief monitoring the event.

Houstons big protest was a major flop. The MSM won't touch it.

And to a liberal with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Herd instinct. Next week they will be trampling each other to get into the Miley Cyrus concert.

These people are a mob. If you notice any photographs of these "Antifa" events, everyone is clutching a $1000 cell phone. Take away their cell phones and they would wither on the vine. They are about as tough and brave as Barney the Purple Dinosaur.

***WARNING***

ABC = All Bull & Counterfeit
Always Bogus & Counterfeit

Don’t believe these Lying Leftist Media outlets that proved themselves during the 2016 campaign to be operatives of the DNC and intentional liars. They are presumed to be lying and we should presume what they publish is a lie. The presumption can only be rebutted with the outlet providing clear and convincing evidence they are not lying.

Are they taking down the statue of renowned civil war hero Sam Houston? (Shhh. Don’t tell them, they’ll never know.)

Turnabout fair play. Then there is his betrayal of the freed slaves at Ebenezer Creek.

So, will Sherman’s statues now be coming down?

The Democratic Party is a symbol of racism, the KKK, and anti civil rights. It should be destroyed.

If these Confederate statues are such a horror, why didn't anyone ever tell Obama to do something about them? I don't remember this ever being an issue during his entire eight years, but within two or three months of Trump's election, it suddenly became a national priority.

My theory: the issue was deferred until a Republican presidency so as to play on the "Republicans are racists" theme.

Exactly what I was thinking.

> Houston’s big protest was a major flop. <

A football analogy, if you don’t mind. The leftists are always on offense, and they have an unlimited number of downs. So this protest went for no gain. The next one might gain a yard, or five. We will never get those yards back.

In other words, not every public statue will come down immediately. But those that go down won’t be going back up.

I’m trying to find any CNN ABC CBS NBC Wash Post, etc polls asking if the statues should stay....

The only one I found was PBS from 4-5 days ago....62% think they should stay(and over sampled D’s)

It has been in the news cycle for a week...and the news media poll people all the time about many things......but not on that question It seems....

interesting
