I don't think that Bannon’s departure is in itself a deal breaker. But if Trump now moves to the so called center on immigration, trade, and cultural issues, it will be evidenced that the Deep State has captured him. Look at what happened to Reagan. At least he had a goal: the defeat of Communism. He abandoned most of his domestic agenda in order to achieve it. Appointees loyal to moderates James Baker and George Bush the elder got the upper hand, and real conservatives like James Watt and David Stockman left.

Reagan "abandoned" most of his domestic agenda because it was pointless to pursue it with Democrats in control of the House for his entire term and the Senate was controlled by Democrats for his last two years in office.
