therealdickgregory It is with enormous sadness that the Gregory family confirms that their father, comedic legend and civil rights activist Mr. Dick Gregory departed this earth tonight in Washington, DC. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love and respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time. More details will be released over the next few days - Christian Gregory

He always struck me as someone who had a good heart even if I didn’t agree with him.
RIP.
Once a funny comedian. Later a leftist old fool. How the mighty have fallen.
Well, Dick, you can now go to your vaunted “Black House” (aka Hell). Say hello to Jane Silverman if she’s down there. You really screwed up her head with your black power shit.
Yes, I hear they contain dihydrogen oxide and the deadly carbon dioxide.
I didn’t agree with a lot of his ideas but he seemed like a decent guy. If I remember correctly, he was a classic Liberal that belived that everyone had the right to say what they believed.
That was Whitman Mayo.
Great story! Thanks for posting.
They are killing us all with that stuff. I’d been feeling awful, got a heavy metals test and I am high in lead, barium, strontium and others. I’ve been working with my doctor on a heavy metal detox. Feeling SO much better.
So, you're implying that DC's Deep State Dems put something in his water???
And Unicorn sweat! HA
????
Which was also my introduction to Red Fox.
If I remember correctly, he was not the kind of person who wanted to do you physical harm for your beliefs. He wasn’t your BLM type.
RIP.
He was a talented and funny guy in his earlier years.
Actually it was the Freedom & Peace Party in 1968, the Peace & Freedom Party nominated Eldridge Cleaver (who later became a Republican). They split from the P&F. My half-sister’s close friend was the 1996 nominee of that party for President. =8-0>
I read his autobiography in high school. I picked it up from a pile of free used paperback book because of it’s provocative title, read the first chapter and didn’t put it down until I was done with it.
This was a good and decent man who walked his talk and never made himself out to be repellant when getting his message across.
Rest in Peace. B’’H.
Wasn’t he an honest man? These days that would make him a king.
RIP
A little playing with the Left’s head on this private joke. Back in 1969, Dick Gregory formed a black/white liberal coalition that was protesting the inauguration of Pres. Nixon.
Gregory wanted lots of black and white leftists to come to DC and proclaim him “president” and literally or figuratively take of the “White House” through protests, and then change its’ name to “The Black House”.
One of his top DC supporters was an afro-wearing white Jewish woman named Jane Silverman (don’t think she was a commie, just a black wannabe). She somewhat claimed to be one of his liaison people in DC and she showed up in some anti-Vietnam protest groups run by the Communist Party in DC.
One of her friends in DC was a smelly old really nasty Commie named Helen Gurewitz, reportedly the first wife of Soviet spy Morton Sobell (who later married another CP red named Helen). Gurewitz would have made a great guard and torturer at Auschwitz. Her husband was Casey Gurewitz, another DC CPer and their son Don became a leader of the Trotskyite “Socialist Workers Party”. Don was a nasty piece of work too, just like his mother.
Helen Gurewitz was a friend of Rep. Ron Dellums (D-CA) communist member of Congress. They participated on the stage platform together in the Feb. 1971 SWP front conference of the “Student Mobilization Committee Against the War in Vietnam” (a wholly SWP and Young Socialist Alliance operation).
Dick Gregory was almost a “Lenny Bruce” type comedian but I thought he was much funnier and not as nasty. However, over time he became a black nationalist and never came back to being a moderate. Now that was a shame because the black Americans needed spokesmen who were not ideological but sensible, pragmatic, and honorable citizens such as was the late Whitney Young.
I never wished bad things for Dick Gregory. I felt sorry for him because he chose the wrong path to tread and he betrayed his “people” and their cause for a better life.
He “coulda been a contender”.
These same Democrats militantly support abortion, which Black disproportionately avail themselves of. You’d think they’d want more future Dem voters. So do I believe Dems would willfully poison Blacks ? Yup.
I do not morn the death of my enemy, and he was my enemy. He espoused numerous ideas that are not conductive to the American way. He sided with the leftist, and used his notoriety to further their cause.
I will not morn his death, nor will I praise him.
Your memory is the best.
How you keep that locked up without going insane is most extraordinary.
Have fun with the eclipse. I must work in Charlotte that morning but may wind down to Winsboro to check it out.
GodSpeed.
Yeah I got that about an hour ago. :)
