For Murdoch Empire, Perhaps a Decisive Point in Relationship to Trump
New York Times ^ | August 18, 2017 | Emily Steel

Posted on 08/18/2017 7:18:38 PM PDT by be-baw

At 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, James Murdoch sent an email to a list of blind-copied recipients offering a striking repudiation of President Trump and a pledge to donate $1 million to the Anti-Defamation League. He addressed the note to “friends,” stating in the first line that he was writing it in a “personal capacity, as a concerned citizen and a father.”

Yet for the son of the conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who speaks regularly with Mr. Trump, it’s impossible to separate the personal, the political and the corporate.

James Murdoch’s message, which he wrote himself, was sent to a number of business associates from his company email address at 21st Century Fox, the global media conglomerate where he reigns as chief executive. And within two hours, it had been leaked to the news media, offering a window into the nuanced internal and external politics of the Murdoch media empire.

Sounds like the young Murdoch is walking a tightrope, trying to hold on to what makes FNC popular (recognizing their financial contribution to the company), yet at the same time disassociating himself from what bothers him about FNC.

“Young Murdoch” is following the well worn path of other children whose parent has created a fortune...and the path leads the untalented son down a path leading to the dissipation of that fortune.

He would like to become a copy of CNN but he has just enough business sense to know he can’t dumpi>all</i> his conservative commentators quickly or FNC will be quickly broke. He seems to be totally conflicted about Hannity. H is his cash cow but is totally inappropriate for a caring socially cool network.

This virtue signaling, especially among the filthy rich is starting to get old. If anything this shameless pandering makes methinks they protest too much. The ones who point their fingers are the ones with the filthy hands.

He is trying to separate Trump from his Jewish supporters, by claiming that Trump is sympathetic to Nazis.

“”Subject: Personal note from James Murdoch re: ADL

Friends,

I’m writing to you in a personal capacity, as a concerned citizen and a father.

It has not been my habit to widely offer running commentary on current affairs, nor to presume to weigh in on the events of a given day save those that might be of particular or specific concern to 21CF and my colleagues.

But what we watched this last week in Charlottesville and the reaction to it by the President of the United States concern all of us as Americans and free people.

These events remind us all why vigilance against hate and bigotry is an eternal obligation - a necessary discipline for the preservation of our way of life and our ideals.

The presence of hate in our society was appallingly laid bare as we watched swastikas brandished on the streets of Charlottesville and acts of brutal terrorism and violence perpetrated by a racist mob.

I can’t even believe I have to write this: standing up to Nazis is essential; there are no good Nazis. Or Klansmen, or terrorists.

Democrats, Republicans, and others must all agree on this, and it compromises nothing for them to do so.

Diverse storytellers, and stories, can make a difference, and that diversity, around the world, is a crucial strength and an animating force in my business.

Often times not everyone agrees with the stories and positions that emerge from this, and that can be difficult. Certainly no company can be perfect.

But I’m proud of the powerful art that can emerge, and I’m grateful to all of my colleagues who make this happen.

From the potent and compelling narrative of ‘12 Years a Slave’, to the streets of Pakistan and the bravery of an extraordinary young woman that we saw in ‘He Named Me Malala’, to name just a few, we’ve never been afraid to help storytellers and artists say important things - hard things, too.

To further demonstrate our commitment, Kathryn and I are donating 1 million dollars to the Anti-Defamation League, and I encourage you to give what you think is right as well.

We hardly ever talk about our charitable giving, but in this case I wanted to tell you and encourage you to be generous too.

Many of you are supporters of the Anti-Defamation League already - now is a great time to give more.

The ADL is an extraordinary force for vigilance and strength in the face of bigotry – you can learn more here: https://www.adl.org.

My very best to you and with all my gratitude,

JRM “”

And that’s why we’ve cut back substantially on watching FNC

It’s still better than the other biased crap, but our watching is very selective, recorded beforehand, and FF thru commercials and stupidity

No way we’d watch Shep. You might as well send him fudge packin’

Remember when the British publication associated with the Murdochs got in trouble for spying on emails? There were rumblings at the time that the US government might come after them here for the same thing. I believe Clinton was president at the time. Ever since then, Fox News and other things related to the Murdoch family have been getting less and less conservative. I think they were told that there would be no investigation if they started to toe the line.

Just my own personal conspiracy theory.

concern all of us as Americans

Murdoch is an American? When did that happen?

He's a rootless globalist, an AINO.

Ten generations ago my ancestors shot at British Regulars to free themselves from the King. 220 years later this guy comes strolling in and says he's one of us?

Not hardly.

If he was, he'd understand some of the people in that rally. Not all, and none of us agree with fringe idiots like Nazi's.

I haven’t even turned on the TV in days. It’s very pleasant! No arguing with crazies in my living room! Why should I put up with that? So I’m not.

Turn off FOX News and you’ll be happier.

They are RINOs and actors.

Shep Smith is in charge of “News.” What do you think is coming?

I do enjoy Netflix and movies from Amazon. Binged watched House of Cards. And went to see Dunkirk. Reading David Balducci...lots to do other than get pissed off watching Marxists argue with RINOS.

I have pretty much stopped watching the Fox News “Special Report” due to their post Ailes shift into the deep swamp. However, last night I caught a bit of their “Panel” discussion. Looking a bit “between the lines”, I saw complete panic when they discussed a visit Thursday between Bannon and a billionaire start-up investor. Their fear was palpable when they considered that Bannon might just start a true conservative media blitz and consume the hole left by their own deep dive into the swamp.

I think we generally call this “back stabbing”. Can’t polish this turd no matter how hard they try.
