THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES

DORIS DAY: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

Nelson Riddle is remembered as the dominant arranger of the Fifties through the Eighties. He knew how to showcase his singer’s strengths and could arrange the same song in unique ways tailored to his vocalist.

Frank DeVol has been unjustly neglected for his work in the Fifties and Sixties as an arranger, movie soundtrack composer and even as an actor. Mitch Miller kept Frank in his stable at Columbia, and much of his work was done with Doris. This 1958 arrangement features Mitch’s singers handling background duties. It’s a slow, relaxed version that turns it into a ballad.
