Modi says India will fight foreign threats in Independence Day speech that sends warning to China
PMs remarks came as New Delhis dispute with Beijing over a strategically key Himalayan plateau enters its second month on Wednesday, with hundreds of soldiers reported to be facing off against each other
India can defend itself from anyone who seeks to act against our country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an Independence Day speech Tuesday amid a tense stand-off with Beijing over a Himalayan plateau.
Security is our top priority, Modi said in a speech before thousands at the landmark Red Fort in New Delhi as the country marked the 70th anniversary of the end of British colonial rule. Be it the sea or the borders, cyber or space - in all spheres, India is capable and we are strong enough to overcome those who try to act against our country, the Hindu nationalist leader declared.

We’ve gotta be rooting for India in this one boys and girls!!!
Totally agree. China is our enemy and a world threat.
How volitile has the border situation been there in the past few decades? Is this something new?
Maybe we are about to find out what India can and cannot do militarily. My guess is that they are a paper tiger.
I would root for them as well; but have little love lost for their Primey, Modi, as he is making it open season on Christians these days.
News reports say that there have been occasional skirmishes, but no serious armed clash. Yes, this appears to be something new. They already deployed large number of troops and hardware near their border.
In Ladakh, jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police performed a yoga session at 18,000 feet and a temperature of minus 25 degrees Celsius
Indian Navy officers held yoga events on board the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and at the naval dockyard in Mumbai
Also the on board officers of INS Jalashwa & INS Kirch in the Bay of Bengal celebrated the Yoga Day.
Thank you, Tiger.
Two large nuclear powers starting to poke each other with sticks, and the US media barely notes it.

We already made a mistake once of rejecting India’s request for weapons in their standoff with China. It was back in the 1960-ies. That threw them right into the arms of the Soviets. They became great buddies with the Soviets for decades. I remember being a little boy in Moscow when Jawaharlal Nehru (Indira Ghandi’s daddy) came on a visit, how we chanted “Hindi-Rusi Bhai-Bhai”. By the way, the Soviet Union and China were arch enemies back then and even had border skirmishes (short of a war) with a lot of casualties on both sides during the Damanskiy dispute. We should make India our strategic ally and pull it out of BRICS. Maybe that way we could have some influence on them with the Christians situation.
That’s because they can’t use it to make Trump look bad. If they sensed an opportunity, it would be front page news.
