She is the £3billion behemoth charged with leading the Royal Navy into the future - and she dwarfs all those who have done the job before her.
Much is expected of the 65,000 tonne, 920ft-long HMS Queen Elizabeth when she eventually enters service as Britain's flagship aircraft carrier in 2020.
And she arrived at her new home of Portsmouth today to much fanfare as thousands came out to give her a proper British welcome.
Known as 'Big Lizzie', she is the biggest and most powerful ship ever built by Britain and is far superior to previous leading naval vessels.
The HMS Queen Elizabeth is the biggest and most powerful ship in the history of the Royal Navy and dwarfs some of the UK's most famous ships to come before her including the HMS Invincible, the HMS Victory and the Mary Rose
For example, she is 300ft longer and 48,000 tonnes heavier than the HMS Invincible, the Navy's former leading aircraft carrier which served in the Falklands War and the Iraq War before she was decommissioned in 2005 and eventually sold for scrap.
The Navy will also hope the HMS Queen Elizabeth lives up to the reputation of her battleship predecessor named after the Queen's grandfather, HMS King George V, which weighed 42,000 tonnes and was 745ft long and helped defeat and sink the German battleship Bismarck during the Second World War.
Going back even further, she weighs almost twice as much as her First World War namesake HMS Queen Elizabeth, which joined the fleet in 1915 to help the Gallipoli campaign and also went on to serve in the Second World War.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, the UK's newest aircraft carrier, has arrived in Portsmouth, as thousands of people line the seafront
Impressive ship, even if below US carrier standards, ha ha. I hope it all works out well for them!!! I hope we get them their air wing of F35s with no further delay!!!
As Peter Hitchens has pointed out, there are no aircraft for this big new carrier because the UK isn’t spending enough money to adequately support its military needs.
It will be no laughing matter if a real shooting war breaks out for the armed forces in the UK.
They are not nearly as ready as they were for the war in the Falklands in 1982.
At least bring a few Harriers out of mothballs to make it look a bit more useful.
Too Bad the F-35 sucks the root.
450 men on tiny Mary Rose? This is like 45 000 men on the new carrier! And they say sailors are cramped today!

Sort of like the UK rolling out a new battleship in 1910 with no shells for the cannon. On second thought, it’s not like that at all. The UK had many battleships back in 1910. Just one with no shells would be no big deal.
But the HMS Queen Elizabeth is it. That’s all the UK has.
And the Argies are even less ready and less capable for another Falklands invasion. They don’t have any jets in their air force!
< cough>USS Zumwalt< /cough>
It can track “A tennis ball traveling at 2,300 mph”.
I’ll bet it wins the ship division at Wimbledon.

You can’t invest in a in a ship like this unless you’re investing in a museum for the British Navy 10 years after this is launched in 2020.
Give me 10 Destroyers that will be laser ready 2022 instead.
“Ill bet it wins the ship division at Wimbledon.”
ROFL!! Unless the mean ol’ USA enters the competition!
Since she has no planes of her own, can we can assume that is 1,000 enemy contacts?
Well, since it was only built to give money to the Scottish shipbuilders and the Glasgow economy to help defeat the “Scottish Independence” vote, why would you need planes for it?
