There was another cop in the car who knows exactly what happened. Whether or not he tells the truth though, well, that’s a whole different story and you can bet he will be under immense pressure to exonerate the shooter.

"No charges yet. If the officer claims fear for his safety then I doubt there ever will be." Fear is not a get out of jail free card. It takes a lot more than that to win even a valid self-defense case.

Police shootings in Oklahoma and Ohio and the Carolinas and Georgia and Nevada. Coast to coast, north to south, police claim fear for their safety and the safety of others and they walk. Happens over and over again.

I agree with the sentiment, but it’s not just because they claimed fear for their life. It’s not their fear that got them off.

I think the standard is usually “reasonable” fear. It’s sort of vague, and subjective. That’s why so many beat the charges; it’s difficult to get twelve people to agree on the definition.
