Erasing a people’s history is a precursor to erasing those people.
I agree.
I’m not a big fan of the Confederacy (based on the utter destruction is brought on), but they fought on principle. This part of our history is important. There are major issues to discuss.
This wasn’t solely about slavery or racism.
The Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t lofted until near the end of the war, when Lincoln was having a near impossible time of financing the war effort.
He raised this issue to garner more support, and it worked.
Imagine ending the war without it. Had funding been sufficient, he may never have even pushed the point.
That’s quite a revealing bit of history, about a war that was supposedly fought to end slavery.
