He DID mention that the initial protestors were peaceful...just folks that wanted to protest removal of Lee’s statue. It got violent when the LEFT (AntiFa, BLM, and so forth) showed up. SOME posters here at FR can’t seem to get that thru their thick skulls.
There may have been people on both sides who came to peacefully protest, but they were outnumbered by the people on both sides who came looking for trouble. Both sides got what they were looking for.
The initial protesters were peaceful then it should show that. And when the first punch was thrown.
Next rally: be prepared with cameras. Lots of cameras to document the melee. The spread it onto the Internet for millions to see.

There are lots of old school hippie types in Cville. They are the ones that were initially standing right up next to the curb on Market St.
What happens over time is the street fills up with more radical protesters. Many heavily muscled black guys, some of whom were carrying bats/clubs. When the park was forced to empty, the Unite the Right group had to walk through that crowd.
