Despite laws making the destruction of public property a criminal offense the North Carolina police watched as a motley group of young vandals pulled down a statue of a confederate soldier and then kicked it repeatedly.
Question: Is is still safe to be a southerner in the US?
§ 14-127. Willful and wanton injury to real property.
If any person shall willfully and wantonly damage, injure or destroy any real property whatsoever, either of a public or private nature, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. (R.C., c. 34, s. 111; 1873-4, c. 176, s. 5; Code, s. 1081; Rev., s. 3677; C.S., s. 4301; 1967, c. 1083; 1993, c. 539, s. 67; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c).)
A protest in downtown Durham on Monday night left a statue of a Confederate soldier erected nearly a century ago crumpled on the ground. Sheriffs deputies recorded the event but did not intervene as a protester climbed a ladder and slipped a yellow, bungie-like cord around the soldiers head and arm and a group pulled the cord.
The statue did a somersault, collapsing against the stone pedestal in front of the old county courthouse on East Main Street.
Protesters cheered and started to kick the crumpled mass.

Anarchy, it’s all the rage.
As a Southerner, I don’t know anyone with that attitude.
People, both black and white, are politer in the South than in the North, in a general sense.
I’m in Alabama. AND, I have encountered many a rude black person as well as rude white person.
They had to cancel the effort because no-one would volunteer to be the Yankees.
I won’t rehash the CW here, both sides have plenty to admire.
