I’m guessing something happened just before we see him continue down the road, like those others chasing him might have hit his car or whatever. He got scared and he had nowhere to go. Putting the car in reverse means stopping, shifting and going back into a dangerous situation. Yes, it looks like he speeds up, probably he thinks he is trying to save his life and this is the only way. Like many of us he probably saw other riot situations where cars were surrounded and people dragged out and beaten and he already knew what he was going to do in that situation, that he unfortunately found himself in. Did he get lost, make a wrong turn? Did he have a confederate flag sticker or something similar on his car and that caused the initial contact against him by the crowd? Maybe.
“He got scared”
“probably he thinks he is..”
“he probably saw...”
Can we please stop with the mind reading/mental gymnastics and stick with the verifiable facts? Thanks.
Anyone who was hit by this car while it was driving in reverse really had it coming to them. Look at the idiots running up toward the car from behind and smashing it with bats ... AFTER the reverse light goes on, and AFTER the brake lights go off. They sure had plenty of warning about what was about to happen, if any of them had an IQ over 60.
I remember the LA riots where that truck driver Reginald Denny was almost beaten to death when he was pulled from his truck. If my vehicle comes under attack, I might panic, and run over rioters.
It sure looks like that’s what happened. He accelerated after they hit his car with a bat or club.
This video shows it:
