CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Sunday strongly defended the police response to the violent demonstrations here on Saturday, saying that law enforcement authorities had done “great work” in “a very delicate situation.”
Brittany Caine-Conley, a minister in training at Sojourners United Church of Christ, who had come with other faith leaders to protest against the white nationalists, said she was horrified to see officers in the park watching the violence take place outside in the street.
“There was no police presence,’’ she said.
“We were watching people punch each other; people were bleeding all the while police were inside of barricades at the park watching. It was essentially just brawling on the street and community members trying to protect each other.”
Asked about the brawling and why police did not do more to control it, Brian Moran, Virginia’s secretary of public safety, said in an interview on Sunday that “it was a volatile situation and it’s unfortunate people resorted to violence.’’
But, he said, “From our plan, to ensure the safety of our citizens and property, it went extremely well.’’

Terry thought it was quite wonderful that there was no damage to property. egads man a woman is dead because no one separated the sides. the religious leaders that were there also registered strong complaints to the inaction of police - called it an “embarrassment.”
McAuliffe is a POS. He never condemned the BLM or Antifa thugs.
The police performed admirably. He said so. They pushed those evil White Nazis into the waiting arms of the Antifa thugs so they could get what they deserved.
And just watch, he will be the Rat candidate in 2020 for this service.

Five minutes after folks are run over, cops showed up. I didn’t keep watching the video to see when medical transport arrived. My son was hit by a car, and an ambulance was there within five to seven minutes. The ambulance had to come from a fire house a mile and a half away. Maybe two miles. Were there no ambulances on site? Where were the police?

This incident occurred within 4-6 blocks of Charlottesville PD HQ and there wasn’t a single cop close by.
You ask a rhetorical question; McAuliffe is in the last six months of his term—and can’t run again. His sights are set on the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. By the time he runs again, this weekend’s debacle will be long-forgotten.
McAuliffe, Moran, and other state leaders had months to prepare for this protest, and their “plan” was pathetic. Security was left largely to a small and professional (but over-matched Charlottesville police department, with limited back-up from the local sheriff’s department and the Virginia State Police.
From the start, it was clear that law enforcement wouldn’t have the resources or personnel to deal with anything other than a minor protest and there were clear indicators the event would be anything but minor. Large blocks of hotel rooms were reserved well in advance; there were reports of a fleet of buses used by Soros organizations to transport the Antifa crowd into Charlottesville on Friday, and the Ku Kluxers were running their own shuttle service to move their agitators around.
But McAuliffe and his minions weren’t worried about events spinning out of control. They knew their friends in the MSM would focus on Trump and the Republicans—and they have followed the desired template. The real surprise is a reporter from the NYT reporting the truth (for a change) and noting the Antifa protesters were just as violent as the white supremacists—and the failure of the police response.
One thing is sure: there will be a full-court press to get the NYT reporter—and their coverage—back on the reservation. Watch them walk back the “failed police response” meme in record time.
God forbid they would train police to respond to crowd violence. ANTIFA tells them they will be violent t and they let them demonstrate. This is either a conspiracy or uneasy or both.
