Yankee Generals and soldiers had more respect for E Lee than the ignorant fools we hear today.
Robert E. Lee said of Pres. Abraham Lincoln that this man had character. I think the same could be said of Gen. Robert E. Lee. There was some a black man in church after the war and Robert E. Lee did a touching act of human brotherhood with him and with his example, the rest of the southern churchgoers joined former Gen. Lee and the black man; e.g., Rober E. Lee takes Communion.
Maybe if Pre. Lincoln hadn't of been shot, race relations would not have been so bad for many years and even today (even if the roles are somewhat reversed).
