New Delhi (AFP) Indias top hunter on Friday led a shoot-to-kill pursuit of an elephant whose murderous rampage through villages has left 15 people dead.
The government has turned to sharpshooter Nawab Shafat Ali Khan ahead of World Elephant Day on Saturday to hunt the animal who crushed four victims in the eastern state of Bihar in March before crossing into neighbouring Jharkhand and killing 11 more.
Jharkhands chief forest and wildlife conservator L.R. Singh said the decision to kill the animal was made after a team failed to tranquilise and capture the elephant during a week-long mission.
Singh blamed the rocky terrain and thick vegetation in Sahibganj district. The visibility is only 15 feet and its become next to impossible to tranquilise the animal, Singh told AFP.

#2 well behind humans.
Hmmm. OK. I don’t think that is accurate, but your sources should know.
Hippos are extremely territorial, quick tempered and blindingly fast.
Thanks! Haven’t had a hippo ping in quite a while. :)
I lost the list.
Just threw out a few names I remembered.
That’s gotta be fake. Hippos can run about 20mph, no more...
What’s that stuff between the elephant’s toes? Slow natives.
When speaking of normal animals, hippos ARE the most dangerous.
A rogue elephant isn’t normal. (Thankfully)
Well, two out of three ain't bad. They're not "blindingly fast", being able to run at about 20mph max...

LOL, looks like Vince Wilfork chasing Michael Vick!
I’ll bet they meant to say “quick”. Being “quick” is often far more dangerous than being fast.
Kind of the equivalent of General Sedgwick saying “They couldn’t possibly hit me from here...”
The EX-cheetah in post #19 isn’t worried about parsing words.
Been missing Gary Larsen for years and would love to see him return.
“Aiyee Teela, she is a big one.”
Anyone here remember that?
The guy they call a “sharpshooter” in the linked article is India’s ‘Dirty Harry’ of big game hunters. You can tell by the name — Nawab Shafat Ali Khan — that he’s Muslim, not Hindu, so he doesn’t have any religious compunction about killing animals. And he comes from a long line of dangerous game hunters, dating back to when the British still ruled India. He was part of India’s hereditary ‘nobility’ until Indira Gandhi stripped them of their titles, his grandfather was one of the favorite hunters of the British Raj, and he still sport hunts (in India no less), so everything about him ticks off the Hindus. But if you’ve got an elephant needs killing, he’s your man.

“The number one killers in Africa are hippos.”
Actually, mosquitoes are. And there are no hippos in India (except in zoos, if that).
“The number one killers in Africa are hippos.”
In the U.S. it is RINOs and Progressives.
