RUSH: How about Mitch McConnell? Have you heard this? McConnell says Hes the Senate majority leader, for those of you in Rio Linda. You know, I suspect that people in Rio Linda know this. Mitch McConnell said the reason why theyre not getting anything done is because expectations have been raised way too high, and these artificial time limits, they just dont work. This is not how legislation gets done. You dont impose artificial timelines, and then you dont set these awfully too-high expectations.
Senator McConnell, you know, weve spoken on the phone many times, and you know I respect you. But, sir, thats not why any of this is happening. The reason why this is happening is, Hey, we cant stop Obamacare til you give us Senate. So we gave you the Senate. Then you said, We cant stop Obamacare. We cant get rid of it til we get the White House. So youve got the White House!
Now youre telling us you cant repeal Obamacare til you get 60 votes in the Senate. For seven years, youve been play-voting repeal it. For seven years, you had no compunction whatsoever to send up a repeal-Obamacare bill that you knew was gonna get vetoed. No, the reason people are upset here is because of what youve said that you were gonna do. Its not because of artificial timelines or expectations have been raised too high and if the expectations are raised too high, its you guys in Congress that have actually done that.

RUSH: Okay. Heres Senator McConnell. This is in Florence, Kentucky. He was addressing the Rotary Club.
MCCONNELL: I know everybody saying, Youve been there, havent done anything, which, uhhhh, I find extremely irritating.
McConnell Whines: Trump Has 'Excessive Expectations' Of GOP Senate; 8-7-2017
RUSH: Right.
MCCONNELL: Part of the reason I think that the storyline is that we havent done much is because, in part, the president and others have set these early timelines about things need to be done by a certain point. Now, our new president, of course, has not been in this line of work before.
RUSH: Oh, here we go!
MCCONNELL: Part of the reason I think people feel like were under underperforming is because too many kind of artificial deadlines unrelated to the reality or complexity of legislating may not have been fully understood.
RUSH: There you go. He also said that the expectations were too high. But so you see here, Well, the president set these early timelines. Hes a new president who has not been in this line of work before. Part of the reason I think people feel that were underperforming, too me artificial No, no, no. Senator, it doesnt matter that Trump is president. It doesnt matter! For seven years, Republicans everywhere have been promising except for Kasich (snorts) to repeal and replace Obamacare. And with every election victory, another excuse was offered.
When you get the House back? Well, we cant really do it til we get the Senate. (chuckling) So Republican voters gave you the Senate, and then after that the excuse was, Well, Obamas still gonna veto it. We really cant do anything. We started getting the idea you dont want to replace Obamacare. You dont want to repeal it or replace it because the excuses for not doing so were rapid fire. I mean, it didnt take long after each victory for another excuse to be launched.
Well, we need the Senate.
Gave you the Senate.
Weeeeell, we dont have the White House.
Gave you the White House.
Now its, We dont have 60 votes in the Senate.
Its nothing to do with artificial timelines or the president not being in this line of work. I dont know how this is gonna fly. I dont know how the Rotary Club in Florence, Kentucky, took this. But Ill tell you, Ive had a thought. As I said, I know Senator McConnell and Ive spoken to him. Hes been very helpful over the course of recent years. There have been phone calls not on the air, but about legislation, about Senate procedure and so forth. Hes been educational in that regard. But Ill tell you, something I cant overlook.
You talk about Senate procedure?
You talk about leadership?
Okay, weve got Collins and Murkowski. Where is the effort to turn them? Where is the effort to go get ? Okay, if youve got 52 Republicans and, say, six of them are not really on board with the other 46, wheres the leadership effort to go to them and do what you can to get em on team, get em on board? Or do you just sit there, Well, Collins, shes never going to vote for it. No way. Why have leadership? Maybe there are efforts to turn them; I dont know. But it just doesnt seem like there are. I mean, when you boil it all down, it just seems inescapable that the Senate and the House majority do not want to repeal Obamacare. Thats whats obvious.

RUSH: I just went back to the archives and found something interesting. Its from TheHill.com, and its from December of 2016, December 6th exactly. You know what the headline of this story is? Mitch McConnell: Well Start Obamacare Repeal on Day One (December 6, 2016) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) says legislation repealing the Affordable Care Act will be the first order of business in the new Congress. McConnell announced the agenda Tuesday, after meeting with Vice President-elect Mike Pence and Senate GOP colleagues over lunch.
When we come back January 3 well be moving to the Obamacare replacement resolution. The Obamacare repeal resolution will be the first item up in the New Year, McConnell said, referring to repeal legislation that is expected to pass with a simple majority vote under special budgetary rules. Isnt it amazing what all did not happen? You go back last December, heres McConnell who just yesterday at the Rotary Club in Kentucky was complaining that artificial timelines and too high expectations have led people to think that they didnt get anything done.
When it was McConnell himself on December 6th last year saying, When we come back Jan. 3 well be moving to the Obamacare replacement resolution. The Obamacare repeal resolution will be the first item up in the New Year, and he then said that it was expected to pass with a simple majority vote under special budgetary rules. The legislation is expected to track closely to similar legislation the GOP-controlled Congress passed at the end of 2015 but which President Obama vetoed.
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), a member of McConnells leadership team, said Republicans will consider an array of measures to replace [Obamacare]. Theres also going to be an important discussion about all the alternatives that were there in 2009 and 2010 that the administration and particularly [Obama] constantly said, There were no other ideas. There were lots of other ideas. This gives us a chance to revisit those ideas, Blunt said.
Okay, so what happened, folks? What happened between December 6th and January 20th? What happened between December 6th and January 5th, when Congress was seated, sworn in? What happened? December 6th McConnell and everybody says they cant wait. Theyre gonna move first thing on Obamacare! And get this. It was going to be This is the thing that stands out to me. I remember this now: repeal legislation that is expected to pass with a simple majority vote under special budgetary rules.
Why, on December 6, they were telling everybody (summarized), Its a slam dunk! The first thing were gonna do is wipe this thing out, and its just gonna be a simple up-and-down vote. There was no concern of any Republican defections. Simple up or down majority vote, gonna get rid of Obamacare. On January 3rd, its the first thing were gonna do. (interruption) So you think its the protests. (interruption) Which protests are you talking about? (interruption) Okay. Oh, well, there were so many protests that were going on. There was the protest of Trumps travel ban.
That, of course, came later. But, yeah, there were protests. So you think the Republican Senate caved to all of the bought-and-paid-for activism that was everywhere around the country during December, and they were intimidated by that? (interruption) You really do? You think they intended to actually do this first thing? You think they intended to vote and repeal Obamacare the first thing, first item of business, first thing that the Senate did? You think they were gonna do that? (interruption) Okay. (sigh) December 6th, you ? (interruption)
Wait a minute now. Snerdley is saying they were afraid of Trumps victory, and on December 6th they were saying anything and everything to let every Republican voter know that they got it. Trump won, and they won because Trump won. Trump was the reason they won. Trumps the reason they got the majority, theyre gonna do it and then it all began to fall apart. So you think that at one time, they were all genuinely behind Trump, and they were all excitedly behind Trump, and they were eager to help the Trump agenda move forward, then the protests came along and they chickened out?
(interruption) They were afraid of the voters So theyre afraid of something. Theyre afraid of the voters or they were afraid of the protesters. Afraid of the both. And when the pedal hit the metal, the rubber hit the road, it was the protesters they had the greatest fear of over voters? Interesting theory. But it is fascinating to go back to this timeline, December 6th, look at the enthusiasm for getting rid of Obamacare, and its gonna be a simple vote. Theres nothing here about Collins or Murkowski not being on board.
Theres nothing here about any kind of problem whatsoever. Its just gonna be slam dunk. And here Roy Blunts all excited about the other ideas that theyve got cause they have all these other ideas back in 2010 that Obama didnt listen to. I think it was something else. I think its actually a combination of things, but if youre gonna say that it was the pro-Obamacare protesters Let me ask you in the audience. Do you think there was a time ? This is, to me, an interesting question.
No way Im gonna be able to know your answer, but having known that youve asked it means youre gonna be prepared to go farther. Do you think there was a time where the Republican Congress was eager and on board and ready to help move the Trump agenda? Cause thats what this story seems to indicate. I mean, McConnells talking big on December 6th (summarized), Yes siree bob! The first thing well do is repeal Obamacare. First thing.
Blunt says (summarized), Yeah, we cant wait! We got a lot of ideas that we want to throw out there as far as the replacement that we had that Obama wasnt interested in. Simple up-or-down vote. Its gonna happen, first item of business. Now look. Now they dont get anywhere near it. So the question is, back to December 6th, was the Republican Party unified behind Trump, and were they just eager, ready to go to implement the Trump agenda and to repeal Obamacare? And if they were, then what happened?

Funny how McConnell is ready to blame voters for actually expecting him to keep his campaign promises, but not a word about McCain killing that placebo repeal bill he was trying to push through for appearances. We are the problem. not the vindictive Senators.
McConnell is trying to blame others for his duplicity and failure. He’s a loser.
Turtle NEVER had ANY intention of repealing Obamacare.
He rode that wave to power.
He lied the entire time.
McCain votes FOR the vote on the floor, then votes against it “because it didn’t go thru committee.”
He may have been a War Hero, but he’s going to be remembered as a lying, slimy, traitorous politician.
Drain the friggin’ swamp.
Succinctly describes it. Nice work!
turtle plays the victim card. like a true democrat.
The globalist donor base has McConnell and a lot of other Republicans by the puppet strings. Of course they had no intention of getting rid of Obamacare.

The awareness of having been “played” for years is slowly growing among the populace. At some point, it will tip to one side or the other.
Mitch McConnell was himself setting the expectations high - it is hypocritical to criticize anyone else.
He got Gorsuch through, which is no small thing, but after that, things have sputtered, to say the least, on any other big ticket items. It’s 8 months later, now, Senator...it’s not like were expecting this to be done back in February...it’s August. He has Murkowski, Collins, and McCain to deal with and they are the ones that threw the wrench in the works, so instead of criticizing just keep your mouth shut, Senator...sounds like the filter is wearing out. Time to retire.
It doesnt matter who was president..they were not going to repeal it
Didn’t take these assclowns very long to pass the Russia sanctions bill ..
“..... but don’t forget that he saved America from Obamas SCOTUS pick.....”
THAT is a was. It’s done, and now he has to make the topic of Obamacare a was. He ain’t doing it. Now we get to call for his scalp just as though he didn’t save America from Obama’s SCOTUS pick.
Harry Reid would never have made such lame excuses.
McConnell is an embarrassment to his party and nation.
The chinless chiseler needs to retire.
