I’m not sure that’s exactly fair. Nowadays, doctors are under the threat of lawsuit all the time. What if they didn’t order a certain test, and it turned out that you had a condition that could have been discovered? In the past we were not such a litigious society, and physicians didn’t have so much to fear.
I can’t condemn an entire profession because some individuals are padding things, while others are trying to cope under duress. But the health risks of many male homosexual behaviors are so plain, that it seems criminal to refuse to address them publicly and to persecute someone who does.
My doc is a conservative Jew who never takes any time off, except for the high holy days - he’s the hardest working man I’ve ever met; gives me his best advice, but doesn’t press anything when he understands that I’m not willing.
There are a lot of good doctors left, just like there are still a lot of good, principled lawyers - another disparaged group.
I’m just worried about the young ones coming along now, many of whom don’t have the same grounding in a philosophical/religious stance, and are so susceptible to this pressure and brainwashing from powerful, established Organizations.
