Has Dave Eggers written a parable of our time, an eviscerating takedown of Silicon Valley and its privacy-invading technology companies?
Or has he missed his target, producing a sanctimonious screed that fails to humanize its characters and understand its subject?
Book critics are divided over the quality of Mr. Eggerss highly anticipated novel The Circle, which went on sale Tuesday. But in Silicon Valley and beyond, the books theme promises to spark an even bigger debate over the 21st-century hyperconnected world that Mr. Eggers describes.
Set in an undefined future time, Mr. Eggerss novel tells the story of Mae Holland, a young idealist who comes to work at the Circle, an immensely powerful technology company that has conquered all its competitors by creating a single log-in for people to search, shop and socialize online.

Not always——— “The Godfather” comes to mind, and “Lonesome Dove.”

It was awful. I didn’t realize he was a raving moonbat. No idea, though if I had taken the time to look, even a cursory web search would have shown me that.
I was steaming mad. It took a lot of willpower not to storm out, but as I said...I didn’t want to ruin the night for other people. But I learned a lesson that night.
Whenever he released the 40 foot high pig balloon with “VOTE DEMOCRAT” on one side and “F*** BUSH” on the other side, that really put the icing on the cake.
What? No pig with Israel’s flag on the side?
Maybe that was later.
On an aside, Alex Okrent, who some wondered if he was the forger of the Obama b/c, had gone to a pro-Pali (IOW, anti-Israel) rally just before he died. He was something like 29. The Israel-hate is strong with liberals. It’s not surprising they jump on other antichrist agendas like killing and chopping up babies for cash, and pushing the homosexual movement.
These things are going to come to pass and then - boom.
The Godfather comes to mind
allegedly plenty of expository detail in the book was left out of the movie...I say allegedly, as I haven’t gotten around to reading it, but I don’t doubt it, as movies have a limited time frame...

oh goody, another aging hippie; too bad you had to pay to see one, you can get all you’d possibly want just looking at Facebook...
some of my classmates from 1967 are much more expressive in their bile than this fellow you’re talking about; they have never progressed from their high school mind trips...
“Creepy” is a good word to use for the near worship of Steve Jobs in those presentations he used to give. “Creepy.”
