Sen. John McCain cautioned Tuesday that President Donald Trump should not threaten North Korea if he was not prepared to act.
"I take exception to the president's comments, because you got to be sure you can do what you say you're going to do," the Arizona Republican told "The Mac & Gaydos Show" on KTAR-FM in Phoenix.
President Trump told reporters in New Jersey that further threats from Pyongyang would be "met with fire and fury like the world has never seen."
"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," Trump said. "They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.
"He has been very threatening beyond a normal statement," the president said.
"And, as I said, they will be met with fire, fury, and, frankly, power the likes of which the world has never seen before."
McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Trump was best to follow the adage of former President Teddy Roosevelt: "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
"The great leaders I've seen don't threaten unless they're ready to act," the senator said, "and I'm not sure President Trump is ready to act.
"It's not terrible in what he said," McCain continued. "It's the classic Trump in that he overstates things."
However, McCain said he did not believe North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un was ready for actual war.
"I think the rotund ruler in Pyongyang is crazy, but he's not ready to go to the brink," he said.
Still, Un should be taken seriously in light of reports North Korea has developed mini nuclear warheads that could be placed within intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Yeah, I guess his defense industry owners are pushing him again to start calling for another war.

“I think that HVAC and flooring overhaul may take care of some of those ‘leak’.
Just ask Broco if you can find him.”

Wow, I hadn’t considered that. Hope the Trump folks will have some HONEST counterintelligence technical experts on scene of the demolition who know what (State-of-the-art) to look for. Great thinking!!
Now I have to reverse my position.
See post 63 above.
Traitor John has never met a war he didn’t like
Ah, yes, Ralph Peters of the Mickey Mouse voice.
Ah, yes, Ralph Peters of the Mickey Mouse voice.
Shut up, Captain Obvious, nobody cares about your lame@ss comments!
You’re done, you’re history, President Trump doesn’t need your help or advice.
Go smoke some medical marijuana, maybe that will help you shut your big fat mouth.
Rooting for the tumor, rooting for the tumor......
I don’t know if he’s worth the trouble to “hate”, but he is a disgusting dirt bag. I’ll be glad when he’s gone, however that happens.
Will this f’er just please go away...permanently.
Dear, sweet Lord ... will this man never shut up before he moves on to his eternal reward?
Just watch how scared they are now.
The “Art of the Deal” is about to go in full swing.
To hear Mitch say he cannot keep up is about as useless as it gets. I could only imagine me telling my corporate that they are moving to fast for me.
Phhhhhhhhht!
She's probably still got a stash of those pain pills she stole from her old medical charity.
He was probably just as obnoxious with the the other POW's in North Vietnam, as he is today with Trump.
We could send that bastard to N Korea and give it to him that way.
Drop dead already, John.
I’m so fed up with these Republican RINOs trying to tell President Trump how to govern!!
They were not elected president, he was!!
President Trump has done more for this country in the 6 months he has been in office than John McCain has in all the years he has been in Congress.
He’s a bitter old man, who is full of anger and resentment, and I just wish he would shut up and go away.
John, you lost. Trump won. Shut up.
