Note to Trump's lawyer: Do not cooperate with Mueller lynch mob
philly.com/RCP ^ | August 4, 2017 | George Parry

The Wall Street Journal reports that special counsel Robert Mueller has convened a grand jury to investigate purported collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians to affect the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

For its part, the Trump people have hired a phalanx of high-priced lawyers. One of them, special counsel to the president Ty Cobb, has announced that “The White House is committed to fully cooperating with Mr. Mueller.”

I sure hope Ty was kidding. Cooperation with Mueller’s lynch mob is the last thing Trump or any of his people should do. But, just in case Cobb meant what he said, let me offer him some free advice.

Ty, you don’t know me. No reason you should. I’m not a high-powered New York or Washington lawyer. A classy guy like you would sneer at my low hourly rate and my cheap, ill-fitting wardrobe. If I ever showed up at your private club, you would undoubtedly rub your cigar out on my forehead and have me escorted off the premises for vagrancy.

But, please, listen up. I’m speaking to you as one who spent more than 20 years as a prosecutor conducting federal and state grand jury investigations and another 20 years as a defense lawyer representing targets of grand juries. As a prosecutor, I interrogated hundreds of witnesses under oath for thousands of hours and presided over the return of grand jury indictments and presentments resulting in thousands of felony charges. So listen carefully.

The absolute last thing someone in your client’s position should do is cooperate with Mueller.

It seems so obvious but it needs saying - there is nothing honorable about mueller or his intentions. I’m confident Trump knows this but does his staffers?

Kangaroo courts only exist in a vacuum, and when REAL law enforcement appears on the scene, with a constitutional basis for the detention and trial of defined criminals, the reason for the mock legal institution SHOULD disappear.

But somehow, it does not, because these star chambers and secret trials then become the tool of big-government statists, operating as a terror strike unit to keep the populace cowed and compliant.

Sharia law comes to American jurisprudence on stealthy little cat feet. Guilty until proven innocent, with no recourse to defense or appeal, and no likelihood of either justice or mercy.

I think the clock is ticking away on the Mueller getting private info on Trump or the ‘gang’, and it gets leaked out. I suspect the game-plan is for Sessions to haul the whole group into a room, and announce an investigation upon them until they determine the leak source. At that point, the Mueller squad is pretty much chained to the ground and won’t be able to do anything until one of them admits they leaked the info.

This is scripted out like a WWE-wrestling match...the whole anti-leak game is built to halt Mueller.

“...star chambers and secret trials then become the tool of big-government statits...”

Well put!!

I would like to see Hannity or Rush each day loudly proclaim how much the witch hunt is costing We the People.

Just think about it; 16 lawyers who bill at $200.00+ per hour (I did not look this up but someone can look up their hourly rates from their previous firms) times 40+ or more hours each week and it is a huge amount of $, especially when then adding in expenses that the taxpayer is paying. President Trump has to pay for his own!

As a former investigator of some fame, I would second your comments in spades.

Now then, we must recognize this is as much an investigation as a battle of PR. If Trump’s attorney said we were not going to cooperate, that would be a PR disaster. So, in public utter the words of cooperation. In private, recall that grand jury proceedings are supposed to be secret, the extent of the cooperation should be: no my client will not talk to any investigators, if subpeoned, he will take the fifth, if you subpeona any documents beyond the scope of the original matter we will appeal them for relevancy. Thank you and by the way that is a nice tie.

Interesting to watch Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut talking about hoax Russian collusion when he was a phony Vietnam con artist!

$200/hour. No, that’s peanuts. Some of these fancy lawyers bill up to $2000/hr.
We are absolute fools for paying them.

I have written to my Congresscritters asking them to make the special counsel lawyers take the same fees that other lawyers who sue government have to accept — under the Equal Access to Justice Act, the court determines a “lodestar” fee that usually way under the lawyer’s actual fees per hour.

Everything this venal weasel says and does should be weighed against the background of his lies and treachery.

I agree that “full cooperation” is just lawyer-speak and intended for PR purposes. I suspect that Trump’s attorneys have already weighed in with their position on where any legitimate inquiry should go and will refuse to cooperate when the scope of the investigation is expanded. It is time to look at the Democratic collusion and crimes. Bring on a second special prosecutor focused on Dem crimes and watch Mueller’s investigation wind down.

His lawyers should be in court challenging the whole enterprise.

Residents of D.C. who are employed by the Swamp cannot render a fair and impartial verdict on any jury.

The Trump’s need to EMBRACE and cling to the FIFTH Amendment. The only thing coming out of their mouths should be some iteration of that amendment. Otherwise they will get Scooter Libby ed.

“...$200.00/hour. No, that’s peanuts... $2,000.00 per hour...”

Thanks for looking into this - I suspected that my $200.00 stab at it was way too low,

This info must get out there to the general public. Most people have no idea how much these lawyers actually make for billable hours and how huge of a waste this witch hunt actually is is in terms of taxpayer dollars.

This is sickening - we taxpayers are lining Hillary’s lawyers and donors pockets with more money and we are helpless to stop it.

Actual estimates of the $ being paid out daily need to be broadcast far and wide.

Do any FReepers have an insiders ability to communicate this to to Hannity or Rush?

As I posted to another thread, the entire cost of this witch hunt needs to be calculated to the second like the Debt Clock, and posted so we Trumpsters can post it to social media sites and the taxpayers can see in real time what Muller is costing them for pursuing this.

$200/hr? Try more like $500 to $1000 for those kinds of lawyers, or more. You can get $200/hr for the junior partners at some of these firms, but if you want the senior guys $750-$1k/hr is the going rate in NYC, DC, etc.

(HAT TIP REGULATOR) Mueller is running an illegal fishing expedition. It violates DoJ rules which many have shown here. It’s nothing more then a banana republic attempt at a coup. Mueller is no saint. He’s an extortionist, running a con game to keep his guys employed.

And add this.

Obama's got oodles of money (his federal inheritance----tax dollars moved offshore) and he's got OFA. He can cause lots of mischief.

OFA has to be closed down.

OFA--Obama's Organizing for Action's digital ad campaign is pressuring members not to go along with Trump's popular wall along the US-Mexico border.....the singular item that got Trump elected to office.

REFERENCE----NBC News reported Obama’s presidential campaign has turned over its most valuable asset (besides his voter fraud MO)— consisting of a massive computer database containing personal data on millions of American voters — to OFA---his pressure group created to act as a shadow govt.

Onetime Obama aide, Katie Hogan, spokeswoman for OFA, told NBC News the OFA information will be used to unleash an “army of door knockers” to advance issues and to raise money in crucial congressional districts.

OFA plans to support Obama’s gun control proposals, even offering a sample script of what they should say to Congresspersons. (Excerpt) Read more at investigations.nbcnews.com ...

=============================================

MEMO TO THE DOJ---- Organizing For Action (OFA) has already acquired access to the Obama campaign's database under a leasing agreement, OFA's Katie Hogan told NBC News.

DOJ SHOULD NOTE....Obama's supporters voluntarily shared personal data with the campaign ... and have no idea the data has been transferred and is being used for purposes beyond the election....for purposes some consider illegal....

Campaign donors do not yet know, OBAMA leased the info to OFA and is making money off their personal information.

Sounds like a class action suit to me.

Great idea.

16 lawyers/billing 8 hours/day at $2000/hour is a CONSERVATIVE estimate of what the witch hunt costs.....
