Illinois makes 'Barack Obama Day' a state holiday

Former President Obama is being honored with a new state holiday in his former state of Illinois.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) signed a measure Friday to make Aug. 4 “Barack Obama Day” in the state, according to NBC Chicago. The holiday will be celebrated each year on Obama’s birthday beginning in 2018.
The day is “set apart to honor the 44th President of the United States of America who began his career serving the People of Illinois in both the Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate, and dedicated his life to protecting the rights of Americans and building bridges across communities.”
Senate Bill 55 was passed by both state houses with no votes against it.
Rauner praised the idea behind the bill earlier this year after a previous version, which would have made the day a legal state holiday, failed. The new holiday is commemorative.
"It's incredibly proud for Illinois that the president came from Illinois. I think it's awesome, and I think we should celebrate it," Rauner said at the time, according to NBC Chicago. "I don't think it should be a formal holiday with paid, forced time off, but I think it should be a day of acknowledgment and celebration."

This is a classic example why I hate Republicans. You’ll never see Democrats agreeing to a state holiday for Ronald Reagan. Even Lincoln has no recognition in IL, no cities or counties are named after him.
What happened to Illinois’ favorite son, Ronald Reagan? I guess this means the children, teachers, government workers in Illinois are off on his birthday, banks will be closed, the mail delivery will not happen. . . .did the taxpayers have a say in this?

It’s so apropos that thiis happens three weeks after the income tax is raised by 32%, Cook Ciunty is taxing sweetened, unsweetened and even some water products at a penny an ounce, Chicago public schools are so out of. Money they are kicking around firing 1,000 teachers, Rahmbo issuing the government for more money, black on black murders are running at the rate of 15 a week, and 1.000 people a day are leaving the state for good.
People running from a confiscatory big government embodies everything Obama stood for.
I left forever on May 26th and all I can do is laugh that my family and my substantial income, my alsmost $12,000 in yearly taxes and everything else I own are out of Illinois’ reach.
