Go to The Netherlands and you find that all adults there speak good English. Same with the people in Singapore and Hong Kong.

I spent a week in Tbilisi and many of the people there, a poor country, spoke English.

I spent a few months in Russia 20 years ago and ten yr olds there spoke perfect English and were choosing a third language to learn.

On a Lufthansa flight a German next to me told me, in perfect English, that Americans are too lazy to learn a second language, and that most of Europe speaks many languages - including English.

Americans tend to think of bi-lingualism as a sign of high intelligence, since it is typically a requirement for higher education, whereas - as you point out - proficiency in two or more languages is a basic requirement for EVERYONE in many countries. For example, my girlfriend is from The Philippines, and English is taught right from the start alongside Tagalog and the local dialect.

What Trump proposes works for me. This country has “suffered greatly” from diversity. It was truly a better place in the 1950’s than it is today. It was better for both Blacks and Whites then here in California.

The schools in countries that are former British colonies typically have excellent educational systems where English is taught to everyone. I know a nurse from Kenya who speaks excellent English, and she didn't learn it after she came here.

To be pedantic, it's not “press 2 for another language”, it's "press 2 for Spanish".

Immigrants speaking every other language except Spanish are expected to learn English. If I were Latino, I would find this notion that I am too stupid to learn English highly offensive.

There are approximately 1.2 billion people in the world who speak English as their first or second language.

It has nothing to do with racism. Want to immigrate to the US? Learn English or be filthy rich and productive (preferably both).
