Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officers were shot Tuesday afternoon after a theft suspect pulled a gun on them. The body camera footage has now been released (video below.)
The shooting stemmed from a theft on Sunday where a man had his cell phones stolen from his car while he was in a grocery store.
The theft victim was later able to track the position of his cell phones to a spot where a pickup truck was parked in the 4100 block of West Tompkins Avenue.

As the officers worked to convince Salas to exit his vehicle, they finally told him that he could get tased. The suspect responded by pulling a gun and shooting the officers.
Officer Richard Nelson was struck through a gap in his ballistic vet, getting shot through the abdomen. The second officer was shot on his gunbelt, which deflected the bullet; he was uninjured.
The suspect shot nine times, and it was initially reported that he shot himself. The coroner determined that the suspect was fatally shot in the head by Officer Nelson.

LV news.
Another happy ending . . . except for the officer being hit.
Too bad they didn’t tase him right away.
A crook DRT. Probably illegal immigrant.
Less than optimal officer tactics that turned out mostly OK for the officers. Some of the poor tactics rooted in popular demand for “Officer Friendly” approach to policing, IMO. Suspect was hinky from the get-go and the passenger-side officer never should have left that position. Can’t believe the perp decided to die over a cell-phone theft.
The video shows how fast things can go bad...
The wounded officers will recover.
The shooter is now one Happy Meal for the maggots.
The police department should be reviewing the quality control specifications for the abdominal area of the ballistic vests provided to its officers.
Out of curiosity, were the phones ever recovered from the suspect vehicle after they pinged them to the area? And was it ever established the suspect was the one who actually stole the phones from the theft victim’s vehicle. I ask because many times stolen phones to often moved or sold quickly...
Thus the problem, at least six convictions and he's out instead of on a chain gang.
You're right! That's why it's almost certain that either 1) He had serious outstanding warrants(s) or because of prior criminal activities he believed he had the same OR 2) He was a felon who if caught with that gun would have gone back to jail for a long time.
My prayers that the officer who was shot in the stomach has a complete recovery.
One less pendejo dirtbag Cholo we need to deport.
The cops knew the driver was not cooperating. When things go bad really fast is like when a home invader broke in my front door and charged me. It went from reading a book to thinking something is not right when I heard the door rattle to drawing a gun in mere seconds.
He might have committed more serious crimes that he thought the cops knew about or might have discovered.
The wounded officers will recover.
The shooter is now one Happy Meal for the maggots.

The least of his concerns should be maggots.
My guess is it’s a lot hotter than Las Vegas where he is. The consequences of his actions go much deeper than him being shot.
“....Suspect was hinky from the get-go and the passenger-side officer never should have left that position....”
Yep. After the first refusal to get out of the vehicle, guns/tasers should have been drawn. The 2nd refusal, he should have been at least tasered. Pass. side officer should never have left that position. Politeness warrants politeness...and obedience. Both LEOs were very fortunate. Thankfully, the dirtbag is dead.
Good question on the phone recovery, especially since they did the stop based on the phone trace.
I’m glad that you’re here to tell the story.I have two large dogs that will act as a buffer if someone breaks in.
Not cooperating happens a lot, like nearly daily. Not cooperating turning into instant shootout is indeed going bad fast.
