With “Wonder Woman” and “Girls Trip” riding a wave of critical and commercial success at the box office this summer, it can be tempting to think that diversity in Hollywood is on an upswing.

But these high-profile examples are not a sign of greater representation in films over all. A new study from the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering found that films were likely to contain fewer women and minority characters than white men, and when they did appear, these characters were portrayed in ways that reinforced stereotypes. And female characters, in particular, were generally less central to the plot.

The last movie I saw was about the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team starring Kurt Russell and that was 2004. Too many white males in that movie I suppose!

Based on many trailers, violence against white males seems to be higher than any other group.

Of course. Bet the movie companies, writers, and directors found or simply believe that no one wants to talk to the maid or cleaner, the landscaper who have taken the jobs of our American high school kids and other citizens. Western Civ, Europeans are the successful people, movies like success. Who wants to listen to a Mexican speak in broken English or ask us to speak in Spanish in our own country? /s

This is outrageous. I demand that the NBA hire more white and Asian players. And half of those should be women.

USC may not be the University of California or Stanford, but surely a school of engineering there has more important business than conducting ideologically driven studies of trivia. Is this what an engineering degree from USC is good for these days?
