Utah Senator Mike Lee, one of Donald Trump's staunchest Republican skeptics during campaign season, is pleased with the president's first six months in office.
During his remarks at Young America's Foundation's National Conservative Student Conference on Tuesday, the second-term Republican was asked to comment on any "pushback" he's received from the GOP as a result of his early criticisms of Trump. "I took a position at the time that was taking place because I had certain ideas about whether he could get elected," the senator said. "I didnt think he could. I turned out to be wrong."
"He has since been elected president of the United States and in so far as he fights to restore constitutionally limited government," Lee continued, "I will be there with him every step of the way, helping him."
Lee, who said he talks to the president "very regularly," recalled being "stirred" by Trump's insistence in his inaugural address that his election represented a moment where power would be transfered "from Washington D.C. back to the American people."
"So far, that's what he's been doing," Lee told the audience of students. "And I say keep it coming because that's what we need."
I thought this interesting coming from Mike Lee.
Seems like Mike Lee can read the writing on the wall and has gotten his head right.
Yeah he praises Trump now, but as soon as another phony baloney “Scandal” comes out you can bet these same Republicans will go on all the cable shows to trash him..its what they do
Yep.
Looks like Lee and cRuz climbed aboard the Trump Train.
cRuz sooner than Lee.
Good for them.
You’re too late, Mike. I live in Utah. I’ve typically liked you and what you had to say, and you’re a real upgrade to Orrin Hatch. But after your anti-Trump rants during election 2016, I had to cut you loose. So have A LOT of other Utahns. You’re accountable. Better dust off that resume and update it because you’re not getting re-elected.
Yes Senator Lee, you are absolutely right. We need the Lockes, De Tocquevilles and Buckleys of the world to ponder and think on the great issues and theories. But sometimes we need the bare knuckles brawler to cut through the crap, muck and mire to implement those theories. That’s why we need Trump now more than ever. To bust up the political class or drain the swamp if you will and give the people back their government.
“Then you really don’t know the caliber of the man that Mike Lee is!”
You are correct.
But I am learning from all the other posts on this thread regarding the caliber of Mike Lee.
“I didnt think he could. I turned out to be wrong.”
Typical inside the beltway out-of-touch bureaucrat from Mike Lee - supposedly one of the good ones.
OK Mike. Now get some work done to MAGA.

(hard to believe McMuffin totals)
So a “no” vote on impeachment...I think we should start counting no votes we can count on because McConnell is more than willing to bring it to a vote...we probably have Cruz too....make the list and be ready
Since when is criticism not ok? Are we so hyper sensitive to criticism that we must close our ears and yell lalalala to make it go away? I seek criticism and opposing views as a leader of people. That’s how I grow.
Mike Lee is a PROVEN conservative track record. It’d pay for The President to listen more to Conservatives in his own party not out to undermine him and for conservatives on this site to know the difference
I have to say, back East, most of us Trump supporters found Lee pretty mystifying during the campaign. And I was originally for Cruz. Lee was energetic in his attempts to damage Trump until way too late in the game, I thought. Many of my friends in Utah were outraged that their Senator, whom they had considered a 100-percent Constitutional conservative, was risking a fatal fracture in the conservative ranks.
Lee's explanations now do seem credible, and I hope he manages to do some good. This is a war, and all hands need to pitch in. He certainly has talent.
Seems like Mike Lee can read the writing on the wall and has gotten his head right.
Why did we have to get stuck with petty vicious back-stabbing @h*le RINOS like Mcliar and Flake? If Arizona can elect decent Republican governors like Ducey and Jan Brewer and a great sheriff like Sheriff Joe, why can’t we get rid of McLiar and Flake?!?
Honestly, I hope McCain croaks quickly and Ducey appoints Jan Brewer in his place. Yes, Jan is not a youngster, but she absolutely supports Donald Trump and his agenda. And I’ll always love that photo of her as governor wagging her finger in Obama’s face LOL.
Better a Lee then a Flake
“I thought this interesting coming from Mike Lee.”
I agree. Very interesting.
BUMP
Lee needs to go sit on Juan.
Arizona must primary out Flake in 2018
I like that Cruz, Lee and Rand Paul, all relatively new and relatively independent, seem to have basically taken Trump under their wings. The primary is OVER (I am a big Rand supporter FYI) and Trump needs allies. We The People are his allies as well, but he needs friends in Congress. I pray that these men can make an impact.
