CALIFORNIA KICKS ICE OUT OF STATE OFFICES...

California’s top labor law enforcer wants federal immigration agents to stay away from offices where state investigators weigh claims about underpaid employees and workplace retaliation.

Those contacts with immigration officers dovetail with a surge in complaints from California workers about employers threatening to have them deported. Last year, Su’s office in the Department of Industrial Relations investigated 14 complaints from workers who claimed their employers threatened them with immigration enforcement.

So far this year, the department has opened 58 immigration-based retaliation cases, Su said.

She said the presence of immigration officers in state offices could disrupt the enforcement of labor laws by discouraging immigrant workers from reporting employers who short them on wages or ...

...Service Employees International Union Local 1000, which also represents some of the department’s employees, endorsed the memo. SEIU supports the bills that would declare California a “sanctuary state” and restrict immigration enforcement at work sites.

“We proudly support the California approach of ensuring that our state and local governments focus on their work, not federal immigration law enforcement,” Local 1000 President Yvonne Walker said.

Sen. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, praised Su for issuing the immigration guidelines. He’s the chairman of a Senate committee that oversees issues related to public employees.

“I applaud steps taken to prevent the Trump administration from targeting the hardworking men and women of our state that help make California the sixth largest economy in the world,” he said.

So what are we waiting for.

Exactly! Why are we letting CA give the middle finger to the Federal Government & laugh in the face of our President?

I hope they get visited by some of the people that Trump is trying to keep out. You can be sure that the news stories of the attack will never mention the fact that the attackers were precisely the ones that CA allowed in, in defiance of federal law.

Cut off all federal funds to California.

California openly flaunts laws they don’t agree with so what reason is there for any Californians to obey any of California’s laws they might disagree with?

Lol, funny how, now that Trump is President, these liberal democrat states seem to be big believers in states rights.

Yeah, the headline suggests pretty outrageous activity on the part of the State of California. Buried in the story, however, is a description of what appears to be the actual State guidance to it’s workers:

“The [CA labor commissioner’s] document includes suggested scripts for how state workers should interact with immigration officials, instructing them to ask the officer to leave and call a department attorney or executive.

It also asks employees to write down contact information for the agent, and then to tell the agent, “The Labor Commissioner’s Office is a state law enforcement agency that investigates and prosecutes labor law violations. Your presence is interfering with our ability to enforce state labor laws. It is the Labor Commissioner’s general policy not to permit such interference with our state law enforcement duties.”

The script continues, “Would you please leave our office? The Labor Commissioner does not consent to your entry or search of any part of our office.”

Which script seems far more innocuous than the headline suggests.

In reality, the only real impact this guidance is likely to have is that “a department attorney or executive” is likely to be called. So what?

The ICE agents are, of course, free to not consent to “please leave our office.” It’s my guess that the ICE agents will not so consent.

This article is certainly interesting as a marker for the mindset of California officials (I was just about to post it myself), but what it appears to describe will likely have no real world consequences.

Need to learn from the bathroom nazis. No federal travel / spending in states with policies that interfere with the execution of government enforcement agents.

“Calexit NOW!!!”

So tell me, what's Free Republic going to do? They are in Fresno, which the last time I looked was still in California. And where in the hell are you going to put the Pacific Fleet, down in Ensenada, Mexico? I guess you forgot to engage your brain prior to putting your mouth in gear! There are millions of decent conservative folks still living in CA, and I for one am getting damned tired of idiots like you who probably don't have the mental acuity to take a bent quarter out of a Coke machine.

Has an ICE agent ever been to the office? The place doesn’t seem to do much, although I am sure they are well paid for their inactivity.

Well firstly ICE does not conduct enforcement operations in state department of labor offices so this is really much to do about nothing.

Second and more importantly just how do they think they can enforce this if ICE did show up? Call the State Troopers, or the local PD?

No LEO would even attempt to arrest a federal agent lawfully conducting his official duties. They are not stupid.

Go ahead california, keep pulling this crap. At this point, we’re beyond building the wall, and moving up to militarizing the US-Mexico border. This is where california’s blantant violations of federal law border on insurrection.

And NO! calexit is not your way out. California is not getting off that easy.

More like loss of statehood and US military occupation. You think the california state government is bad? Just wait until armed military are walking your streets, and you can’t so much as take a dump without their official approval.

Democrats want amnesty. DJT should give it to them.

Announce that effective 7 Aug 2017, the DoJ will NOT pursue charges against any employer for employing an illegal alien, provided the company contacts the INS with the person's name, address, SS# and phone number. This amnesty expires 31 Aug 2017. After that employers found employing ANY illegal will be subjected to maximum fines.
