In mid-August 2011, then-non-politician Donald Trump levied a critique of President Barack Obama.

This was one of dozens of tweets criticizing Obama for playing golf. (Here’s another classic.) It was one of a handful that also dinged Obama for taking a vacation.

On the campaign trail, Trump was adamant: He would rarely play golf — “I’m not going to have time to go play golf,” he once said — and he certainly wasn’t going to take a lot of vacation. (“There’s just so much to be done,” he told “60 Minutes,” “so I don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations.”)
On Friday, Trump will head to his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., for a 17-day vacation. That’s nearly twice as long as the vacation Obama took in August during his first year in office, when he went to Martha’s Vineyard.

We all know three weeks in office is so horrible you need a vacation:
Feb. 13-16, Obama travels to Chicago. President plays some basketball and takes Michelle out for Valentine’s Day dinner at a restaurant run by one of Oprah’s former personal chefs.
August 14-16, Obama goes fly fishing in Montana. He didn’t catch any but caught on to casting fast.
August 23-30, Obama’s vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., staying in an oceanfront home that rents for more than $35,000 a week.
I doubt that this is true, but even if it is, he has already accomplished more in 6 months than the kenyan did in eight LOOONG years!
00obomma didn’t have the balls to have to tell his mother-in-law that she had to live somewhere else while the HVAC was replaced, so he bagged the next guy with that.
Trump manned up to accommodate the maintenance.

The Washington Post flips back and forth on “vacation days” depending on whether the President in a Republican or a Democrat.
When Obama was President, the point was made that the President is never actually on vacation. He has what’s called working vacations.
Now that Trump is President, going to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend is a vacation day.
At one level, the point is bogus. It comes down to leadership style. Trump works 20 hours a day. He’s the energizer bunny. If he hadn’t been maintaining such a regimen for fifty years, I would wonder about his ability to maintain this pace.
Obama, on the other hand, has always been a casual person, relying on his wit and charm. Hence no law review articles, problems with delivering his book on time, and no accomplishments as a state Senator or a U.S. Senator.
At another level, the point is a misdirection. Obama was into the exclusive and the exotic in vacation (and other consumer choices). Trump is simultaneously into what I call “affordable luxury” and plebeian values. By “affordable luxury,” I mean such things as having homes that are part of business enterprises that are making money. In contrast, Obama is lavish in spending money that wasn’t his, wracking up enormous expenses for either the taxpayer when he was President or now for his multilateral corporate friends.
Trump cheats time by changing his environment and by combining business with normal functions. He takes weekends at different locations, works while en route, and is always having lunch and dinner with important people.
If people were at all fair with Trump, his management and leadership style would be studied. Instead, the other side seizes every opportunity to construe anything Trump as bad.
