There are many reasons for that. Many people live paycheck to paycheck. Some because of poor budgeting. Some because of low wages. Many small employers, which employ more than about half of working people, offer no 401-k which is probably the easiest way to invest in the market. Of those who do have a vehicle like that, many employees are afraid of the market for reasons like Enron, WorldCom, the crash of 08-09, Michael Milican and Bernie Madoff. The equities market has done a poor job of policing itself and educating the public. And the list goes on and on.

>And number of people not in the workforce has risen from 94,366,000 in January to 94,657,000 in July. A little premature to be dancing in the streets. Inertia. The non-working people aren’t flooding back in, but the ones who are working are moving up to better jobs. Eventually, the market will make the other jobs suck less and then the non-workers who didn’t go on permanent disability under Obama will find their way back.

After 8 years of the American Hating, Mooselimb, Imposter Obama it will take some time to get all this mess cleaned up to increase employment across the fruited plain. But it is slowly happening.

I want to know why McConnell and Paul Ryan did not stop the insanity of having 2.3 million more H1B visa employees that are Mooselimbs from Pakistan, India, and so forth and so on in the year 2016.

This is a perfect example on how this America Hating Homo, Mooselimb, Imposter Obama wanted to destroy this country!!!

I can understand Obama’s hatred of America based on who he is and where he came from and the influences in his life.

But, what is Ryan and McConnell’s excuse?

So those average Joes and Josephines at the latest Trump rallies are just dumb smucks?

We have a couple of older relatives and some not that old, who turn green and roll their eyes when the conversation turns to investments.

Yet, those dumb smucks’s IRA’s and 401k’s have done great since the election last November by just following the suggested investment guides for their ages for their IRA’s and 401 K’s.

Will Trump save those who don’t save, max out on their credit cards and spend more than they make?

NO!

However, Trump for most of his voters is the best Potus since RR!

Probably more than a few are as you put it dumb smucks.

I would imagine the vast majority don't have or have little saved in equities/mutual funds/401-k's. Some of my friends who are among the strongest Trump supporters are in that position. And in their 40's and 50's. Two of them just filed Chapter 13 because of their spending.

“And in their 40’s and 50’s. Two of them just filed Chapter 13 because of their spending.”

I guess that I am cruel. Since these people were adults, I have zero sympathy.

When California went through its meltdown as BushII was leaving and Obama was coming in, the # of people losing their homes was incredible.

One of our younger relatives lives in an East Bay city on a cul de sac with 8 new homes. 4 home owners in that cul de sac lost their homes during that meltdown.

His kids had a lot anxiety about losing their home.

This relative pointed out to his kids that each family that lost their homes had at least one luxury SUV (Hummers or Range Rovers were the SUV’s of choice) and one luxury pickup that could pull the home away. Those families went on incredible vacations and dressed like fashion models. They had expensive water ski boats.

The home losers didn’t budget and made poor spending decisions.

This relative pointed out to his kids they had a 5 year old mid size SUV and he had a plain Jane 2 door company pickup.

They bought their clothes from Old Navy on sale and visited relatives with the exception of a couple days one summer at Disney Land on vacations. His fishing boat was a plain jane fishing boat, he bought his first year out of college and still has the same motor 2 decades later.

The wife shopped at Costco and Raley’s for sale items for most of their groceries.

Before and during those 8 years he maxed out on his 401 k and his wife maxed out her IRA. They refied their home to get a great interest rate and a lower payment. The $’s saved from the refi was invested in FIDO college funds for their kids with FIDO not a luxury car or 5 star vacation.

Their older child after getting a drivers license got jobs to pay for gas, insurance and their fun money. The parents bought a medium size previously owned SUV for the kids. Their college bound oldest child will not be driving that suv to/from and at college. That vehicle will be driven by the next youngest one, when he gets a job. If he doesn’t get a job, they will sell that vehicle.

Their kids are gifted in math and besides getting math awards have participated in the math olympiads.

However, real life is not algebra, calculus and math olympiads. It is based on setting real budgets and living with them. So they go over their family budgets with the kids at least twice a month. They have the kids sit up their budgets based on their jobs and allowances.

They go out to eat once a month. The kids get to pick the place and are given $50 to cover the meal.

Real economics, real math and the reality that if you $crew up financially, you will not be helped is the daily lesson for these kids. They do not want to be like the parents who lost their homes due to overspending.

While I agree many people don’t establish the right financial priorities, I have also found a prolific number of the ones I know to be fervent and avid Trump supporters and believe his MAGA is their recipie to solve their financial ills. It may lighten the burden, but it’s going to take behavior change from them for things to change for the better.
