Krauthammer: Impeachment would be 'a catastrophic mistake'

Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer called the idea of impeaching President Trump "a catastrophic mistake" on Thursday, warning that there's no evidence Trump has committed a crime.

"Collusion is unseemly but it ain't a crime," Krauthammer said in an interview with Fox News's Tucker Carlson. "You've got a political establishment, mostly Democratic but there are some Republicans, that would like to see him taken out of office."

He stressed that he doesn't defend Trump, but only thinks that impeachment is a mistake. "Again, I think he's unfit," Krauthammer said, "but that's not the grounds for removal."

Impeachment won’t happen. They’re just trying to neutralize Trump and maybe cause him to quit in disgust. The precedent it would set is that a sufficient majority in both Houses would confer to the opposition party a veto of the will of the American voters with respect to the Presidency. Instant Constitutional crisis.

The Founders were not specific as to what "high crimes and misdemeanors" meant, but what it certainly does not mean is "they're anything we say they are." If that does go down, and I do not think that it will, but if it does we no longer have a government. And the people who did it from both parties had better double up on their kevlar underwear.

The article fails to clarify "a catastrophic mistake" for whom. Is Charles fretting for the democrats or for the country?
From any perspective the entire attack against Trump is without merit; from the entire political spectrum people have come forward to say that "collusion" does not violate any statute. Besides, even with the vast resources of both government and media, no one has produced any proof that Trump colluded with Russia to affect the election results. So, what are we talking about?

The point is that by denying any wrongdoing, Trump can now be accused of lying and, as everyone knows, it's not the crime that's important but the cover-up...unless of course it's the nature of the evidence that's important...unless it's the severity of the crime...unless...

I noticed it was a bit vague on particulars also. But on a different note, when was the last time "a catastrophic mistake" ever stopped the democrats? It's not like that's an impediment to their normal operations. Heck, Obama himself was "a catastrophic mistake". It's their calling card.

I like watching Tucker Carlson but when he morphs into O’Reilly lite I turn the channel. The worst thing about it is when Krauthammer says something like “Trump is unfit” Carlson never challenges him. My respect for Carlson drops a few notches every time he gives this #NeverTrumper a forum.
