Good idea. In the past I’ve suggested a system run completely on donations similar to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis...letting the super-wealthy and average joe freely donate. Surely wealthy liberals would give to such a cause??

They are not hospitals though.
There are only a few hospitals that are obligated to provide care in exchange for the federal government having paid some of their construction costs.
As for treating “anything”, many conditions [HIV, auto-immune arthritis, etc.] may require expensive drugs, which may not be available through a drug company patient assistance program.

Hospitals haven’t generally been able to run on donations since around 1910.
Our medical-industrial complex is about the size of the entire German economy - it’s just too big and expensive to run on charity.
People will give generously to save a kid with cancer.
If I had cancer I might be able to beg $20/day towards a $100,000 chemotherapy tab.

My idea meant no one had to have medical insurance, and thus, no huge monthly premium to pay. I think people would be glad to donate under that system.

You have the choice to not use them. Business decisions are based on the potential for earnings, unless you're Progressive (sorry, Flo).
