Former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett is riding into a new role. On Monday, Lyft announced Jarrett will join the team as a member of the Board of Directors.

Lyft must expect that this move will give them some additional leverage against municipal regulations protecting taxi monopolies, as well as additional weight in competition with Uber. It will accelerate the conscription of both Uber and Lyft into the union machine, returning consumers to the situation of high-priced, inconvenient transport.
