A classified report from the Pentagon's inspector general found that the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) program had potential monitoring and vetting problems
In 2014, the Pentagon announced that the program would also be open to 'Dreamers' who met the requirements of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals initiative.
MAVNI was originally intended to recruit people with special skills - including medical specialists and language skills - into the military in exchange for expedited US citizenship.
But sources told Fox that there had been 'drift' in the program's criteria, with MAVNI increasingly being used to recruit cooks and drivers with no specialized skills.
Concerns also include holes in security vetting, and a finding that multiple recruits under the program are unaccounted for.
'The program has been replete with problems, to include foreign infiltration so much so that the Department of Defense is seeking to suspend the program due to those concerns,' Republican US Representative Steve Russell of Oklahoma said in a committee hearing last week.

Pentagon investigators find 'security risks' in Obama-era program to recruit foreigners into US military
Surprise surprise
This is nothing but suicide imposed by obozo who didn’t care if he destroyed this country. I have become convinced that only God stood in his way to bridge the gap to our wonderful President now.
There were a lot of green card holders in the service when I was in but it was not because of a program or concerted effort to get them in it was because they volunteered on their own free will and of course having an honorable discharge will look very good when applying for citizenship.
Indeed.
Sickening.
That needs to end.
It’s been going on since before I was born. The U.S. Navy was always recruiting Filipinos from way back in the early 20th century. We just have to be more careful now.
As we should be.
The US has a big problem in that many missions our military is deployed to are not *worth* our military. And they are egregiously expensive, while degrading out combat readiness.
We could save a huge amount of money by “offshoring” with a private light infantry corporation. Perhaps on a Caribbean island or in Africa or South America.
Importantly, while they would be getting logistical and communications and transportation support from the US military, and be led by veteran US officers, they would be working on contract, so could pick and choose the missions they were hired for. And it would be for cash up front. No benefits beyond that.
And they would be forbidden from even setting foot in the US or its territories.
The type of missions they would be carrying out would have minimal risk of combat, and be very low intensity, “guard duty” types of missions. Likewise they could be auxiliaries to humanitarian aid missions.
The bottom line is just that: cost savings of billions of dollars every year, while preserving our military for real missions.
there are thousands of dual citizens holding top national security clearances working in federal gov’t
that’s a big problem
the romans tried that - didn’t turn out so well
Reported in the UK Daily Mail newspaper. I’m sure this will be front page news in all the US papers after it is picked up from UPI and AP.
That’s no surprise!!!
why would they need an honorable discharge in order to become an American citizen ???
they already are eligible to be naturalized whether or not they ever serve in the military...
as a veteran who became an American citizen YEARS before I was ever honorably discharged, I can say you didn’t think through what you wrote...or at least I hope that’s what your problem is...
my first reaction at reading what you wrote was to be appalled, insulted and yes OFFENDED that anyone would say such a damnable thing of me...
the day I was naturalized into American citizenship, I wore the uniform of an American service person because I was STILL in the military and as yet had not completed my first enlistment...I later reenlisted and got an honorable discharge FIVE years after I became an American...
I did not enlist to receive American citizenship or for educational benefits or any other reason than
I LOVE MY COUNTRY AND I WANTED TO SERVE...
I took to heart what President Kennedy had said and I understood what he meant, to wit:
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country...
I had but one life to give to my country...Patrick Henry..
and I gave it BEFORE it was MY country...
When I enlisted I was an undocumented American patriot...
Now go kick someone else in the guts...
Hopefully someone who wont be as nice to you as I have been...
Either you are not a very bright person or you lack a grasp of reality.
