How many countries have suffered the vain belief that Afghanistan could be tamed over the centuries??? So far as I can determine..., that region (and beyond) has merely been a swamp of warring tribes since it was populated...

It never made sense that GWB went in there. It would've been more effective to stop people from getting out of there than trying to change them.
