OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) Joe Flaccos health. The salary cap. And of course, potential negative fan reaction.
The Baltimore Raves are weighing all these factors and then some as they continue to wrestle with the decision whether to sign free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Its been a week since Ravens coach John Harbaugh floated the idea of adding Kaepernick, a veteran with Super Bowl experience and the baggage that comes from his decision last year to literally sit out the national anthem on game day.
The topic of Kaepernick came up on the first day of training camp because Flacco, the teams starter for the past nine seasons, arrived with a bad back. Flacco still hasnt taken a snap, though he insists hes on the mend.
Kaepernick remains an option, particularly since backup Ryan Mallett has not performed well in practice. One problem is the Ravens face in signing Kaepernick is they dont have much space under the salary cap and still have plenty of holes to fill, including on a porous offense line.
But biggest challenge for the Ravens is gauging the potential backlash that might be created by signing a player who gained widespread attention last year for his decision to sit then eventually kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice.
So, the Ravens will weigh all their options before deciding if Kaepernick is worth the money.

They are waiting to see what the possible fallout will be if they pick him up. I think they will decide to pass on him.
As if America needed any more reason to hate that franchise.
I hope they sign him and the bottom falls out of the franchise.
“Gosh, do we have enough Communists in our town to fill a stadium?”
Doesn’t matter.
The NFL is finished.
So give him some time and encouragement.
Tom Brady, 6th round draft pick, backup to Drew Bledsoe, is now the greatest QB in NFL history.
If you don't give these guys a chance, how are they going to prove themselves?
Call up Tim Tebow. Kaepernick sux.
Well, no, its not all about football. Football (as all sports), are entertainment. A sector of the economy where fans spend their discretionary dollars to embrace. Failure to realize that no one NEEDS to spend money on football, failure to realize that signing a MAJOR LEAGUE GOOFBALL could have adverse affects at the box office, would be a mistake of gargantuan proportions.
Tebow needs to stay away from the sewer that is today’s NFL.
He’s having a good time playing baseball.
Whatever team signs him deserves the backlash.
any team owner who wants a quick ticket to the federal bankruptcy court....can hire this Ah*le...
insult your customers? who pay $150 a seat to watch you play a children’s game? and not all THAT well, either?
and then you insult us?
forget it~! we ain’t buying no more tickets if he’s hired
Baltimore deserves more scum like Kapydick. The Mayor and State’s Attorneys are all racist scum. Give them another reason to burn down the city.
This guy will be poison in the locker room and alienate at least half the fan base. So sure, sign him.....

Kap’s not worth any money and I hope in a few years he goes completely broke.
I’m sure he’ll have a lot of “fans” in Baltimore.
Why doesn’t he play Canadian football? He won’t be forced to listen to the Star-Spangled Banner and his anti-Americanism should make him popular with the fans.
I’ll boycott the NFL on TV again this year! I stuck to my guns last year, save the Bucs & Bears game, which I attended. Coincidentally, Mike Evans of the Bucs showed his arse during the anthem. He was roundly booed and apologized before the end of the day.
