Maryland city to allow non-citizens to vote...again
The American Thinker ^ | 8-2-17 | Robert Knight

If you want to know where the progressive left wants to take U.S. elections, a trip through Maryland's Washington, D.C.-area suburban counties is instructive. The City of College Park in Prince George's County is on the verge of becoming the ninth city in Maryland to allow non-citizens – including illegal aliens – to vote in municipal elections.

In a revealing 20-minute video of a June 7 council meeting, city officials discussed how best to get rid of the citizenship requirement so that virtually anyone of legal age living in the city can vote.  A council vote is slated for August 8.

One councilwoman noted that in the hippie community of Takoma Park (modifier added), where 16-year-olds can vote, "they do not ask and do not care if the resident is in their city legally or not," a policy she indicated should be adopted by College Park.   One lone College Park council member opined that immigration status should be a factor and that the council could serve all residents without letting unqualified residents vote.

Because elections loom in November, the council discussed creating a separate deadline for citizens and non-citizens to register before the election.  Citizens must register 28 days ahead of an election.  But non-citizens can register up to 14 days before the election if the city charter amendment is approved.   When someone asked whether legal residents who missed the 28-day mark could have a grace period up to 14 days, the idea was quickly dismissed.  Welcome to the new America, where actual citizens are intentionally disadvantaged.

[eight] other Maryland cities that already allow non-citizens to vote include Hyattsville, which is also in Prince George's County and is a "sanctuary city," and Mount Rainier, also in Prince George's, which amended its charter in January.  The others are ...

When this escalates from municipal level to state level, there must be hell to pay. The Constitution states:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion...

Criminalien voting violates the notion of the Republican form of government, and is clearly in invasion territory.

Why should there be any age restrictions on voting in College Park? Why should voting in their elections be limited to people living in their jurisdiction? Why should voting in their elections be limited to people?

Why shouldn’t anybody who wants to live there be allowed to occupy any house they want? What are property rights? (sarc/off)

. . . anyone of legal age living in the city can vote.

But if babies could vote shouldn’t that be a pro-life vote?

Illegal action by a state government is still illegal. Jail.

In general, PEEGEE County is a chaotic mess. Probably the worst of the worst in the state but other counties are rapidly deteriorating too. The state as a whole is going downhill. Lots of people have been leaving Maryland in recent years, for obvious reasons.

The whole state of California allows non citizens of any provenance to vote, officially- in state elections only, of course- but everyone gets the same ballot and the registrars tell the aliens to go ahead and vote the whole ballot-who’s gonna know? And that is on camera. Chicago does the same thing.

Babies that can vote are already born so abortion is irrelevant to them. Democrats are for abortion because Democrats are already born and cannot be aborted, They are against the death penalty because they envision themselves getting that needle. They could conceivably be subject to the death penalty.

All of FR should request an absentee ballot then.

My conservative book club met Monday night and we were discussing transgenders in the military. One of the ladies (who are all of a “certain age”) said (in jest) that she thought that the government should pay for plastic surgery to help our self esteem! The others chimed in about eye and chin lifts, etc.

This article (about no age limit) reminds me of pre-schoolers wanting all of the toys, or college students wanting free tuition. No telling where this will end.

These are municipal elections, not federal elections. Exactly how can Sessions initiate a lawsuit against the city? On what charges? Shouldn't some of the citizens of the city take the initial step of challenging it in the courts?

Federalism is a key issue. Does the Constitution permit this under the 10th Amendment? States are issuing driver's licenses to illegals and granting them in-state tuition, e.g., Texas.

DOJ can certainly crackdown on the illegals in the communities that allow this kind of voting. They can be deported. Green card holders are a different matter. There are at any one time about 15 million green card holders in the US. They have all the rights and privileges of citizens except the right to vote in federal elections.

It is also worth remembering that all residents, regardless of their status as legal or illegal, are counted in the census, which is then used to allocate Congressional districts. CA would have 4 to 5 fewer congressional seats if only legal citizens were counted.
