SANAA — A man convicted of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl was executed in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Monday in front of hundreds of onlookers, witnesses said.
A policeman fired five bullets from an assault rifle into Muhammad al-Maghrabi, 41, as he lay with his hands handcuffed behind his back on a blanket on the ground in Sanaa’s Tahrir Square, after a judge read out the death sentence.
The execution drew an unusually large number of onlookers — some perched up telegraph poles and many watching from rooftops — because of the young age of Rana al-Matari, the victim.
Security was tight amid fears of a revenge attack on Maghrabi by armed tribesmen related to his victim. The police truck transporting Maghrabi to the square was escorted by five police patrol vehicles.
Yahya al-Matari, the father of the girl, told reporters after the execution that he felt as if he had been reborn.
“This is the first day in my life,” he said. “I am relieved now.”

Justice served
I’ve never been a fan of Yemen (that is an understatement). They moved up a notch today.
The father seemed to be more worried about his honor than grieving.
It would have made me feel relieved that such an animal was put down but I would not have felt reborn.
I heard that last week, a man was finally executed in te state of Ohio, for raping and killing a 3-yr-old child...in 1993!
It seems to be only the Europeans allow Muslim child rape.
The justice system in this country is next to worthless.
Well, that ought to do the job.
I’d have likely emptied the mag ... the policeman exercised major league self restraint.
Agree. He done that in Sweden, Germany, or the UK, he’d have gotten a day in jail.

This sounds like justice to me.
I guess if he hadn’t killed her, she’d be forced to honeymoon with him at their version of Niagara Falls.
Works for me.
But, my heart breaks for the little girl.
That is the distinction between disciplined justice and unrestrained vengeance.
Should be done to each and every child molester: in public and immediately.
If he’d married her, they’d call him a prophet.
“Executioner” would be a bad job for me ... a near occasion of sin.
A man’s gotta know his limitations ...
Why did this happen? Islam allows rape and child marriage. Why was this illegal?
