Later he was transferred by Cardinal John Law from parish to parish, where he abused other boys, some as young as age six.
The church paid for him to get "therapy" at a live-in "treatment center" to which other child-abusing priests from the Boston area were sent. Psychologists at this facility pronounced Shanley (and others) "fit to return to their priestly duties," and they were returned by Cardinal Law to work at new parishes.
Shanley eventually left for Palm Springs, California, and with another Boston-area priest named John White opened a bed and breakfast catering to homosexuals; the name of the B&B was "Inn Exile." They did this while being on "sick leave" from the Boston diocese, and collecting pay from the diocese, with (apparently) the full knowledge of Cardinal Law.
This is just a brief synopsis of the story, which does not begin to do justice to the extreme malfeasance and evil perpetrated by the Boston archdiocese hierarchy in protecting Shanley (and John Geoghan, and others) for many years during the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The Boston cases cost the Church many tens of millions of dollars to settle.
He and ever child rapist should be castrated.
Can you believe that about running that gay B&B !!!!!
here is the WIKIPEDIA summary:
Early career
Shanley first gained notoriety during the 1970s as a “street priest”, ministering to drug addicts and runaways who struggled with their sexuality. His writings included Changing Norms of Sexuality.[2] During the 1980s, Shanley served as pastor of St. Jean the Evangelist Parish in Newton.[3] In 1990, he was transferred to St. Anne’s in San Bernardino, California. While there he and another priest, John J. White, co-owned “a bed-and-breakfast for gay customers 50 miles away in Palm Springs”.[4]
Shanley had earned “the nickname the hippie priest for his long hair and outspoken views, including his public rejection of the church’s condemnation of homosexuality.”[5] He attended a conference on sexuality where the founders of NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association, conceived the idea of such an organization.[6] However, Shanley was not a part of the 32 individuals at the meeting who caucused to form the group, according to a Catholic priest and Protestant minister who were.[7]
From the reader comments:
William Kennedy has finally exposed the Satanic element lurking behind the priest abuse scandal. . . It has been obvious for some time to anyone paying attention that there is a Luciferian pattern evident in all of the more sensational stories of priest sex abuse. Most notably the case of Paul Shanley, whom Kennedy devotes an entire chapter to in this book. He was even involved with the Process Church of the Final Judgement, as Kennedy proves.
Too twisted that the bishop had so much empathy for the child molesters and none for their innocent victims.
As is usual the coverup is worse than the crime. If the Church had been honest and up front and had gone after pedophiles in its ranks with a vengeance the decades of scandal after scandal and slow bleed would never have occurred. Unfortunately it took the usual course that powerful organizations usually do.
